Pangos Frosh/Soph Sunday Standouts
PrepHoops wrapped up another great Pangos All-Midwest Frosh/Soph Camp on Sunday with another round of games along with the all-star festivities. Check out who were some of the standout performers on Sunday!
PG Adam Miller (Morgan Park – 2020)
The 6’4” point guard was an absolute beast at the camp. He made a strong case why he should take the #1 spot in 2020. Miller is an explosive point guard with size and incredible handles. Plays with a great flare for the game. Electric passer that made some incredible dishes throughout the event. He took a lot of threes and at times you could say he forced it a bit, but he did display that is definitely a weapon in his game that will be adequate going forward. Hit them both off the catch and pulling up. Big time high-major recruit.
PG DJ Steward (Fenwick – 2020)
Steward was solid throughout the camp, but saved his best for last. He was very very good in the all-star game. The 6’1” point guard has length and feel out on the perimeter. Silky smooth game with his handles, passing, and scoring. Steward is developing into a very good pull up shooter from three. Loves to use ball screens and shoot behind them drilling deep shots. He has the creativity and handles to get where he wants on the floor. Mixed in a variety of scoop shots and runners. Did struggle finishing on those shots more than usual however. Defensively we really like what he brings to the table being able to block shots of opposing guards and get steals. One of the elite prospects in Illinois and our current #1 in 2020.
PG Tyler Beard (Whitney Young – 2020)
Absolutely dominant weekend from Beard. It was the best we have ever seen the Whitney Young 2020 prospect. What impressed us most was how he showed off his complete floor game. Got to the hoop with his speed and burst off the bounce. Also used that athleticism in the open floor where he was a tough cover. His jump shot was definitely a major weapon and if he shoots it like he did over the weekend that will open up all kinds of avenues for him. He hit from three throughout the camp at a nice clip especially pulling up off the bounce. Passed it well and proved he can be a point guard at the college level. Top 5 player in the Illinois 2020 class.
PF Romelle Howard (Lincoln Park – 2020)
The Pangos event was Howard’s coming out party. He wasn’t on our radar at all heading into the event and was one of the more impressive rebounders from Illinois at the camp. The physical 6’6” power forward snatches rebounds in traffic consistently. He plays with a lot of force and a high running motor all the time. Runs the floor very well. Offensively he flashes a lefty hook shot on occasion. Most of his points come on put backs. Really like the toughness he brings on the boards and defensively.
G Ahamad Bynum (Simeon – 2021)
Bynum made a very strong case as the best 2021 prospect in the state of Illinois. The Simeon 6’1” guard showed more of a passing game than we had seen in the past. He is a physically mature and strong point guard with plus athleticism. Powerful and explosive getting in the lane. Got to the rim consistently. Finished with a few acrobatic shots. Jump shot was on point all camp drilling pull up jumpers and threes. At times he can get a little shot happy from deep, but shoots a good ball. His passing was electric especially in the top 30 all-star game. He made multiple spectacular dishes for dimes. Showed much more combo guard skills that we had seen in the past. Bynum needs to start being tracked by D1 programs.
C Martice Mitchell (Bloom – 2020)
Mitchell has a lot of potential, but has never quite put it all together. He started to show that this weekend at Pangos. The 6’9” Bloom product has great height and length for the center position. Will need to add strength going forward. It was nice to see him compete and show more toughness around the hoop. Hit the glass at a nice clip and ran the floor extremely well. Got on the glass for a few put backs. Offensively he is still unrefined and timing needs to get better, but he definitely has D1 upside.
SG Keshawn Williams (Bloom – 2020)
Williams continued his strong weekend. The Bloom 2020 shooting guard was the best player on the floor in the top 60 all-star game. He is only 6’1”, but can really flat out score! Williams is a thin and wiry two guard that has crisp handles and an explosive first step. Good straight line driver off the bounce. He also shot it well from three all weekend.
PG Reggie Strong (Farragut – 2020)
Strong is a lefty point guard that is long and wiry. He impacts the game with his tenacity on both ends. Defensively he uses his length and anticipation to get steals and get into his man causing havoc. Strong has the ability to get in the lane consistently with his crossover and quick first step. Jump shot continues to improve each time we see him especially from three. Excels playing in an up and down game where he can make plays in transition.
SG TJ Bamba (Lincoln, CO – 2020)
Bamba is a strong two guard that can really put up points in a hurry! He drilled threes at a high clip throughout the event with a smooth looking shot. Also can use his strength to take it right at his opponent and play bully ball getting to the rim.
SG Katrell Raimey (Olathe East, KS – 2020)
Raimey is a 6’4” wing from Kansas that is a born scorer! He is super athletic and has size for position. Drilled multiple deep threes in rhythm. Excels best in transition where he uses his physical gifts and athleticism to overpower the other team and finish at the cup. Should be a major scorer this year as a sophomore!
C Even Brauns (Regina, IA – 2020)
Brauns is a 6’9” post out of the state of Iowa. He has broad shoulders and a strong build. One of the taller and stronger post prospects in attendance. He is an excellent rebounder. Snatches balls at their highest point and clears throwing a strong outlet pass. Mobile and runs the floor well. Posts up strong on the block. Pick and pop skill including being able to stretch the defense out to three.
