Palmetto State : Region 5-A Predictions
Living outside of the State of South Carolina many people couldn’t locate some of these schools and towns on the map. Prep Hoops SC is here to do that just for you in this segment coming from Region 5-A.
Region 5-A Preseason Team (7 players)
Roderick Pam (2018) – Bethune-Bowman HS (Rowesville)
Pam 6’0 is back to lead the Mohawks offense. Pam is a solid on the ball defender.
Braxton Wedgeworth (2019) – Bethune-Bowman HS (Rowesville)
Wedgeworth is a leader on the hardwood just like the football field. Wedgeworth is the quarterback on the Mohawks football team. Wedgeworth a dual-sport athlete plays around the basket and in the paint. Wedgeworth 6’2 played AAU this past summer with the Orangeburg X-Press.
Wedgeworth should be a double-double guy every night for the Mohawks this season.
Darius Rush (2018) – C.E. Murray HS (Greeleyville) – Will enroll early at South Carolina
Rush is by far the best athlete in the Region 5-A. Rush a University of South Carolina Football commit will play in the Shrine Bowl after the football season. The War Eagles are currently 9-1 and heading into the 2nd round of the playoffs.
Rush 6’2 has played wide receiver this season for the War Eagles. Rush has 38 receptions – 661 yards – 14 touchdowns. Rush to boot is a 3-time State Track and Field Champion. Rush won’t even hit the hardwood until after mid December that’s if he doesn’t leave early.
The War Eagles last season got hit with the injury bug and never had a full team until late January 2017. Rush informed Prep Hoops SC this evening that he does plan on enrolling into the University of South Carolina for Spring Classes on January 10, 2018.
Twayne Butler (2019) – C.E. Murray HS (Greeleyville) (pictured on front)
Butler 6’4 is just a bit of a junk yard dog in the paint. Butler played with a real small and local AAU outfit last year the Carolina Knights out of Manning, SC. I’m looking for Butler to have a break-out season for the War Eagles.
Sheldon Butler (2021) – C.E. Murray HS (Greeleyville)
Butler 6’5 should have a immediate impact for the War Eagles this coming season. Bradley from nearby Salters played with Team Gerald on the AAU Circuit.
Butler will be the Newcomer of the Year in the Region this coming season. The War Eagles will improve on there 5-18 season last year pending staying healthy.
Terrance Yon (2018) – Scott’s Branch HS (Summerton)
Yon 6’3 returns for the Eagles after averaging 9.5 ppg last season.
Sleeper in the Region : BJ Fuller (2018) – Cross HS (Cross)
Fuller 6’3 returns to a team that just won 4 games last season while averaging 10.4 ppg.
Projection Order of Finish : C.E. Murray HS, Bethune-Bowman HS, Scott’s Branch, Cross HS and Branchville HS
