Notebook: Pocket City X-League Underclassmen
Eric Gardner
The Fall League season is upon us and this week we took a trip down south to Evansville North High School for the Pocket City X-League. It gave us a look at some of the top players from the southern part of the state. Here are some notes from our time looking at the underclassmen.
Alex Money - 6’4 PF 2021 - Evansville Mater Dei (IN) - Money is a big, well built forward with good mobility and strength. Is agile enough to be able to play out on the wing a bit right now but the frame could still really grow and give him the ability in the low post to be a productive player.
Kaleb Applebey - 6’5 PF 2021 - Mt. Carmel (IL) - Applebey is a big, strong post player with good quickness up and down the court. Has really solid hands and can put the ball on the floor a bit. Love his ability to move and still overpower defenders when he has to. Good athlete for a kid his size and has a ton of upside.
Owen Dease - 5’11 PG 2021 - Evansville Reitz (IN) - Dease is a thin lead guard with some speed and scoring ability. Able to take off on the bounce and create in the mid-range. Showed he was capable of shooting out beyond the three point line. Good shotmaker who should be able to stay on the ball.
Cameron Banks - 6’2 SG 2021 - Evansville Central (IN) - Banks is a tall guard with some handles and a great frame. He’s already got a fairly mature body and enough skill you can see he will continue to get better. Was really active in the mid-range and has the ability to score right now. Like his mid-range pull-up ability.
Blake Sisley - 6’7 PF 2021 - Heritage Hills (IN) - Sisley is an interesting forward prospect with his size, length, and athleticism. He’s going to be a guy that has some ability inside but at the same time, he’s probably going to be able to stretch the floor. Plays with some aggressiveness and has enough skill to him to be productive now. Could still grow and gain even more upside.
Turner Royal - 6’0 PG 2020 - Bloomfield (IN) - Royal has continued to improve. He’s a tough guard who has enough stuff to him that you feel confident he can handle defensive pressure. He’s a solid shooter but in the last few months, he’s become a more balanced scoring threat.
Hunter Bruce - 6’4 SF 2020 - Boonville (IN) - Bruce has stayed steady since he was a freshman with his ability to play on the wing and shoot the ball. He’s really solid with his ability to take a dribble or two to get a three off. Has shown some ability to drive but it is still coming along.
Kiyron Powell - 6’8 C 2020 - Evansville Bosse (IN) - Powell has really gained confidence in the last year. He’s still rail thin but has added some strength and is more active. Showed a better shot blocking ability and has a bit better touch to shoot. Still a bit off right at the rim but he’s improving quicker now. High, high upside once he adds more weight/strength.
Khristian Lander - 5’10 PG 2021 - Evansville Reitz (IN) - Lander might end up being one of the best players in the state pretty quickly. He’s just so aggressive and skilled and has enough size that he doesn’t get held back with what he wants to do. Jumper looked better and more reeled in than the last time we saw him. Big time prospect in that 2021 class.
