Maryland/DC Rankings Breakdown: 2019 Newcomers (Part 2)
PrepHoops Maryland recently updated the class of 2019 player rankings. Getting a list of 75 players and choosing which rank best fits the individual was not easy, but we do our best to keep them updated every three months. We love finding out about new players, and we’ve done so since our last update. Here is part two of our breakdown series featuring newcomers.
DANIEL ALLEN | MCKINLEY TECH
We’ve become very familiar with Daniel Allen this summer, as we’ve seen him in a number of different settings. He is a very good shooter, and can lead a team. Allen is a vocal presence on the floor, and is good at attacking off the dribble. He checks in at #74 in the updated rankings.
JESIAH MATTHEWS | BULLIS
Jesiah Matthews, the 64th ranked 2019 prospect in the latest update, is a smooth and crafty guard with a quick first step. He’s a good pull up shooter who can finish in traffic, and likes to create for others. Matthews demonstrates a very good understanding of the game.
LOUIS TANG | ST. MARY’S RYKEN
While we’ve not yet been able to evaluate Louis Tang in a high school setting, we do know that the 6’4 junior plays with a high motor, and scores the ball well from all three levels. Ryken’s wing debuts at #54 in the latest update.
BOBBY CARSON | DEMATHA
Bobby Carson is a long lanky wing with some skill. The 6’5 wing, who checks in at #33 in the updated rankings, is a rangy athlete who displays good defensive potential and versatility.
VICTOR MURESAN | ST. ANDREW’S
Victor Muresan, the 66th ranked prospect in the latest rankings update, is a disruptive rim protector with long arms and a high motor. The 6-foot-9 post is still developing offensively, and getting stronger.
MALIK MCCORMICK | DUNBAR
Malik McCormick is a solid all around prospect. The lefty is a tough guard that prides himself on defense, and can score at the rim through contact. McCormick, the 68th ranked player in our 2019 update, is a confident player that can consistently make shots from the perimeter.
GARRETT KIRKLAND | BISHOP MCNAMARA
Garrett Kirkland, the #69 ranked player in our latest update, is a skilled shooting guard that moves well off the ball, and scores it well from the middle areas of the floor. He gets to his spots quickly, and doesn’t need much time to get his shot off.
