Holiday Hoopsgiving (NC Teams)
The Holiday Hoopsgiving Tournament held in Atlanta, Georgia features some of the top teams in the Southeast competing in the event. Here is a look at the teams competing and a breakdown of North Carolina programs that will be participating.
Trinity Christian-The Crusaders led by 2019 Joey Baker will be participating this year in the Hoopsgiving Tournament. Baker is a very athletic wing who recently picked up an offer from Duke University. He has offers from some of the top programs in the country and is ranked as the #2 prospect in the class of 2019 by PrepHoopsNC. Greg Gantt, another wing in the 2019 class is ranked #4 in the class. Au’Diese Toney is a 6’5 guard that is ranked #12 in North Carolina for the class of 2019. The Crusaders won the NCISAA 1-A state title in 2016 and were runner-up’s last season.
Carmel Christian-Led by former Charlotte 49er standout Byron Dinkins, Carmel Christian finished runner-up last season in the NCISAA 2-A championship finishing with a 21-6 overall record. The Cougars are led this season by the junior trio of Marten Maide (ranked 21st), Donovan Gregory (ranked 17th) and Myles Pierre (ranked 48th). Sophomore Ford Cooper is going to be one to track over the next few years.
Charlotte Christian-A loss last season in the quarterfinals of the NCISAA tournament will have Charlotte Christian eager to get further this season. Another loss to the team is the transfer of junior big man and Virginia Tech commit BJ Mack to Oak Hill Academy (VA). Liberty signee Blake Preston will have to take on the majority of rebounding and defensive duties with the departure. Junior guard JC Tharrington will have to improve on his 9 point per game average from last season and continue his (7) team assists leading abilities.
This years Holiday Hoopsgiving should be a great event around the Thanksgiving Holiday to go and check out some of the top players in the Southeast.
