George Conditt to Iowa State
Corliss 2018 center George Conditt has made his commitment! Conditt went from unknown to the top big man in the state of Illinois in the span of just a couple months. The state’s #5 overall prospect has committed to Iowa State. PHI caught up with Conditt moments after the decision. Why Iowa State?
“Just the way it was a family environment. On my official visit I felt like I was family. It was a tough decision between all three schools. It was even tougher between New Mexico and Iowa State because New Mexico had a lot to offer. Illinois had a lot to offer. I felt at home and that Iowa State was the best.”
He spoke about his relationship with the Cyclones coaching staff.
“I visited three times. All the visits were great and they showed me something new each time. After my third visit every week of September they were down at my house. Last week they were at my house watching the Bears game with me. Nothing basketball related just watching the Bears game with me. Just building relationship with my family.”
How does he see his game fitting in at Iowa State?
“They are going to allow me to play my role. They are going to let me play how I played this summer. Play on and off the ball. Be able to dribble, shoot, and take people off the wing as well.”
When did he make his final call?
“It was last minute. I had two edits set up. The other was New Mexico.”
Conditt is happy to have the process over with.
“It was good to be recruited the way I did. Not many people get to choose the college that they go to and I was thankful that I did. All good things have to come to an end.”
The skilled 6’9” post went from complete unknown to a high-major recruit in a matter of a couple months. Conditt is a long and lanky post that runs the floor tremendously well. He is face up five man that can handle the ball on the perimeter, make pull up jumpers, and is a force blocking shots. Conditt is a high-major recruit that narrowed his finalists to Illinois, Iowa State, and New Mexico. He took official visits to all three.
Long strides allow him to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time running the floor. Offensively he is most comfortable facing up and attacking. Can handle it a little getting to the rim in a couple strides. Quality moves in the post, but will need to add strength in college to finish more consistently. Rebounds well using his go go gadget arms to snatch boards out of others hands. Defensively he is a monster. His length allows him to contest and even block three point shots. Changes the game as a rim protector down low too.
Conditt is the top center in the state of Illinois. He played with Team RWA on the travel team circuit.
