Florida Top 250 Expo Prospect Report: Jake Hershkowitz (2018)
2018 Coral Glades guard Jake Hershkowitz was one of 53 upperclassmen and 86 total prospects in attendance at the Prep Hoops Florida Top 250 Expo on Saturday, Sept. 30th at DME Academy in Daytona Beach.
I sat down with Hershkowitz to talk about his time at the expo.
Q: What was your experience like in Daytona at the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo?
A: I really enjoyed the experience, There was a really cool staff running the event and I felt like there was a great mix of high school coaches, college coaches, scouts and media.
Q: Where did you first hear about it?
A: I first heard about the event on Twitter.
Q: What was the best thing you learned?
A: The best thing that I learned at the camp was that at a showcase most players have the “I’m going to get mine” mindset. But as a solid point guard, if you establish that the only way everyone can showcase their skills is through good team basketball, then it will be way more enjoyable for everyone.
Q: What positive in your game grew? What negative in your game did you notice and try to fix?
A: A positive in my game that grew would definitely be my defense, I felt like being an older guy on the court I could take that ball from anyone so definitely my defensive mindset grew. As for negatives, I would say shot selection because sometimes I struggle with shot selection and being in an environment where there’s pretty much a green light from anywhere, I may have taken some shots I wouldn’t have other wise.
Q: Would you recommend the expo to your peers? How come?
A: I would recommend it to my peers because it is a great way for them to get some exposure. Even if there wasn’t a bunch of 5 star recruits in the building, Prep Hoops is great at getting your name out there so if you’re under the radar, this is an event you need to be at.
Q: What is your role looking like this season?
A: This season I’m our go to guy at Coral Glades. That is scoring wise, leadership wise and role model-wise. I’m one of a few seniors on a very hungry team. It’s my job this year to provide numbers and make my teammates better so everyone can contribute. I feel like I have high expectations being a four-year varsity player, but I’ve never shied away from a challenge. I’m excited to see how impactful this year will be for me and my college recruiting.
Hershkowitz, a 6’1″ senior led the point with ease at the expo. He flashed what makes him a true leader and ballhandler. He attacked well and showed his athleticism with a few dunks. Named the Male Athlete of The Year at Coral Glades, I fully expect Hershkowitz to have a huge final high school season leading to a couple of college offers.
