Cohen gets new coach with Marcell Fisher, Hornets could be on the rise
A small school in the New Orleans metro area could be on the rise in 2017-18. Cohen has a rich tradition in the area but the program had been in a rebuilding phase for quite some time until the last couple of seasons.
The Green Hornets finally got over .500 with a 12-10 record in 2015-16 and improved on that record with a 15-10 mark last season. Cohen is now hoping to accelerate its progression and brought in a new coach in Marcell Fisher.
Fisher is making his fourth stop as a head coach since beginning at Clark in 2010 and his last stint was at Lake Area for the 2015-16 season. He coached at Clark for three years with two playoff appearances and led both Hahnville and Lake Area to the playoffs in his lone seasons at both schools.
Cohen was also a playoff team last year and has a few key players returning including 2018 Jamon Mack. The 6-foot-4 wing averaged nearly 20 points for the Green Hornets as a junior and had a strong spring and summer with the New Orleans Wolves on the grassroots circuit. Fisher also expects to get contributions from 2018 Derrick Smith and 2019s Stanley Kelly and Chris Anderson.
There will be plenty of competition in Cohen’s district including KIPP Renaissance and Sophie B. Wright, the latter of which could be one of the metro area’s top teams. The Green Hornets will have an uphill battle in District 9-3A against the Warriors but they’ll be a team to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
