Coach Evaluation: Jordan Rawls (2019)
The emergence of Hamilton Heights Christian Academy point guard Jordan Rawls (Chattanooga, TN) from complimentary player to team leader began in the spring, but next month the pool of witnesses will overflow.
“Been really good,” said HHCA Head Coach Zach Ferrell. “If the season had to start today (Jordan Rawls) probably would be the starting point guard. He has got a real good feel for the game. Understands it.”
With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nickeil Alexander-Walker guiding the 2016-2017 HHCA successes, Rawls essentially provided bench shooting. He had more to give, but the team didn’t need it.
All that has changed.
“Has shown a real good ability to defend consistently,” said Coach Ferrell. “Handled it well. Gotten more comfortable handling it in the open court against pressure. Just gotten a lot better.”
Rawls’ development beyond a knock-down shooter continues to impress. He sees the floor better and doesn’t rush things. The whole team benefits from Jordan Rawls multi-faceted game. Defenses will have to respect his jumper and driving lanes will open up behind his defender.
“When her first came that was kinda his thing. He could really shoot it, shoot it from deep. That was kinda his thing. The thing that he has really grown into with us is being able to handle it in the fullcourt and making those right decisions as a point guard against pressure. That is something he has really improved in over the last year.”
