Best of Best: Small Guards
In our series “Best of the Best” we look at a specific aspect of a prospects game and evaluate who are the best at that specific thing across the state. Today we look at the best Small Guards in Illinois.
PG Bailey Dee (Champaign Central)
Dee is a small and compact lead guard that plays with a lot of toughness. He is an outstanding leader and scorer at his size.
PG Chase Adams (Orr)
Adams might be the smallest player on this list. His lack of size along with playmaking ability are what makes him one of the more well-known players in Chicago.
PG Sammy Green (Alton Marquette)
Green is a flashy point guard that plays with a lot of flair for the game. He gets others involved and can shoot it as well.
PG Brandon Simberg (Libertyville)
Simberg didn’t get a ton of tick for the Fire on the EYBL circuit, but there is no doubt he can be a very good small college player with his shooting and toughness.
PG Jack Marinko (Edwardsville)
Marinko is a lights out perimeter shooter that lacks the height to play the two at the next level, but will be given every opportunity to run the show for Edwardsville this upcoming season.
PG Joseph Yesufu (Bolingbrook)
Yesufu is small at only about 5’9”, but his combination of strength and elite athleticism make up for it. Gets to the rim and makes plays scoring in the paint at his size.
PG Marquise Walker (Curie)
Walker is a flashy point guard that can score the ball well for his size and is a playmaker with the rock.
PG Jeremiah Washington (Bogan)
Speaking of playmakers that is exactly how we would describe Washington. The Bogan guard isn’t the biggest, but his ability to win in the open floor is second to none.
PG Zach Toussaint (Johnsburg)
Toussaint looks like he is 8 years old with his baby face and height, but he can really shoot it from deep!
PG Treye Tucker (Harlem)
Tucker is another smaller guard that plays with a lot of flair for the game and can impact a game with both his scoring as well as distributing.
PG Andre White (Harlem)
White is a smaller point guard that leads his team with his fiery demeanor and ability to score while still making those around him better.
PG Anthony French (Zion Benton)
French is a tiny left handed point guard out of Zion Benton that emerged on the circuit this July with his play for the Illinois Stars pushing the tempo and hitting jumpers.
PG Fred Cleveland (Leo)
Cleveland is a smaller point guard that has game! He is quick and shifty with the ball in his hands and can let it fly from well beyond the three point arc.
PG Malik Tidwell (Marian Catholic)
Tidwell is a powerful and compact lead guard that is more of a scorer at this stage with his ability to take a bump at the rim and shoot it from three.
PG Jaheim Holden (Evanston)
Holden made a name for himself last high school season. The lefty guard pushes the tempo, gets others involved, and can hit a stop and pop jumper.
