Best of Best: Fastest Players
In our series “Best of the Best” we look at a specific aspect of a prospects game and evaluate who are the best at that specific thing across the state. Today we look at the Fastest players in Illinois.
PG Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park)
Dosunmu’s game is built off his elite speed. The Morgan Park 2018 standout attacks downhill with his explosion and blowing by defenders.
PG Kendle Moore (Danville)
Moore is a quick and shifty guard that handles the ball well in the half court, but his speed in the transition game is what makes him a solid mid-major prospect at the next level.
PG Xavier Castaneda (Whitney Young)
Castaneda is a high IQ guard that can really push it in the open floor. He made Whitney Young run last year and will play a key role in them trying to defend their state title this upcoming season.
PG Xavier Pinson (Simeon)
Pinson was one of the toughest guards to stay in front of all summer. That is due to his smooth acceleration and speed once he gets going.
PG Kaleb Thornton (Bolingbrook)
Thornton is jet fast and uses that speed in the open floor particularly turning his defense into offense by getting transition buckets off his or his team’s pressure defense.
PG Brandon Ellis (Warren)
Ellis is a track athlete that has speed in the open floor. Really showed that off this summer with Kessel Heat attacking the hoop and playing in the open floor effectively.
PG Isaiah Fuller (OPRF)
Fuller can really go! The OPRF standout does it no matter the travel team or setting he plays in. Gets the ball on outlets and pushes it up the other teams back.
PG Jalen Hodge (O’Fallon)
Hodge is a lefty floor general that uses his speed to weave in and out of the defense making plays for himself getting to the rim and setting up his teammates.
PG Kevin Caldwell (Alton)
Caldwell broke out in July with his play for the Jets. The Alton point guard is a compact guard that has great speed in the open floor and isn’t afraid to attack the rim.
PG Joseph Yesufu (Bolingbrook)
Yesufu teams up with Kaleb Thornton mentioned above to form the most dynamic speed combo in the state. He is extremely quick changing ends of the floor and getting from end to end in the blink of an eye.
PG Artese Stapleton (Kenwood)
Stapleton is a lightning quick guard with a long and rangy frame. Showed with Young & Reckless he can control the game with his speed pushing it looking to score and dish both effectively.
PG Jeremiah Washington (Bogan)
Washington has speed to burn for Bogan! He showed that again this summer as he is one of the fastest players in the state baseline to baseline.
PG DJ Steward (Fenwick)
Steward has smooth acceleration and at times it doesn’t look like he is moving fast, but he definitely has the speed to be a big time weapon for the next three years and beyond.
PG Adam Miller (Morgan Park)
Miller has size, scoring ability, and speed! That is what makes this Morgan Park point guard such an elite level prospect as he can grab a defensive rebound and beat the defense back the other way for a layup at the rim.
PG Reggie Strong (Farragut)
Strong is a wiry and explosive lead guard that pushes the tempo and has great speed from end to end getting out and running with the best of them!
