Baker Gets Duke Offer
2019 wing Joey Baker of Trinity Christian in Fayetteville, North Carolina is next up at the school that produced current Dallas Mavericks point guard Dennis Smith Jr. Baker is ranked as the #2 player in the PrepHoopNC’s 2019 class behind only Wendell Moore of Cox Mill High School.
As a freshman, Baker helped lead Trinity Christian to the NCISAA 1-A state title and a runner-up finish this past season, falling to The Burlington School in the finals.
Baker is a special player that has been starting varsity since 8th grade, on and off the court he has a maturity that is on a different level than most players his age. He can score the ball in multiple ways, shoots it from deep very well, has nice height and length and is an athletic player who simply wants to win and puts the team before himself.
Baker recently visited Duke University and the staff offered the junior who played this summer with Team Felton. The Blue Devils join Kansas, Florida, Louisville, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, Providence, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Clemson, St. Johns, East Carolina, Boston College and Western Carolina as schools that have offered.
Baker has made it known that he wanted an offer from Duke and North Carolina. He got his offer with Duke but North Carolina head coach Roy Williams has yet to pull the trigger on Baker. He is an ACC-caliber player and I expect him to stay close to his home state of North Carolina for his college playing experience. North Carolina has offered 2019 counterpart Wendell Moore of Cox Mill at the wing position for that class and it is known in the recruiting circles that Wendell Moore may join senior Rechon Black, also of Cox Mill High School in Carolina Blue a year later.
