4A: Top Playmakers
Although it is inevitable that another prospect will step up and deserve to be added to this list, below is a list of prospects who have already demonstrated their abilities to make big time plays. These players are the type of guys who not only generate offense for themselves, but also create for others.
4A: Top Playmakers
Anthony McDade 5’10 PG Logan 2019
Despite only being a Sophomore, McDade demonstrated a strong ability to shoot the basketball from deep and create for himself as well as his teammates. Although Logan brings back the majority of their team, McDade looks poised to play an even bigger role this upcoming season.
Jared Bagley 6’1 PG/SG Logan 2018
Bagley has a number of talented teammates. With that said, he makes everyone around him better. His ability to score the basketball in an array of ways creates opportunities for other guys. Bagley and McDade should make up the best backcourt in all of 4A and one of the best in the entire state.
Jason Ricketts 6’7 SF/PF Juan Diego 2018
Ricketts might be the toughest player in the entire state to stay in front of. His size and speed make him especially dangerous in transition and one of the top playmakers in the state. Ricketts ability to play multiple positions at a high level makes him even more of a threat to opposing teams. Ricketts has the potential to be the 4A player of the year.
Ross Reeves 6’0 PG Orem 2018
Reeves has a nice balance to his game that makes him really tough to guard. Although he is not as explosive as some of the prospects on this list, his dangerous versatility makes him a top tier playmaker. He can shoot it as well as anyone in the state. Further, he has a strong ability to stop on a dime and elevate for shots. Reeves will be a huge part of Orem’s success this season.
Puka Nacua 6’2 SG Orem 2018
Nacua is a capable shooter, but is far from a catch and shoot guy. His athleticism and explosiveness enables him to make big time plays. He gets into the paint at will and is unselfish which makes his teammates better. Further, he has great instincts which makes him dangerous on the defensive end with causing turnovers.
James Nelson 6’6 SG Salem Hills 2018
Nelson might be the best overall scoring threat in all of 4A. He creates shots for himself extremely well. Further, he does all of the little things, like getting on the glass, that enable him to get easy points. Nelson is a match-up nightmare at the high school level due to his size and versatility which is one he is one of the top playmakers in 4A.
Dallin Holker 6’5 PF Lehi 2018
Although Holker is a traditional playmaker, he contributes greatly for Lehi and deserves to be on the top playmakers list. His size and activity on the glass enable him to make a huge impact on any game. Holker will be a key contributor for Lehi and crucial to the team’s overall success. Despite not possessing the same versatility as a number of the players on the list, he is capable of making a huge impact.
Brantzen Blackner 6’4 SG/SF Canyon View 2018
Blackner is another candidate for player of the year for 4A. He is one of, if not the most, the most talented players in 4A and in the state. His ability to create shots for himself makes him extremely difficult to guard. Further, he is capable of coming off of screens and shooting in catch and shoot situations. Blackner will have the ball in his hands, and rightfully so.
Mason Falslev Mason Falslev 6'1" | PG Sky View | 2020 State #228 Nation UT 6’1 PG Sky View 2019
Falslev had a remarkable Sophomore season for Sky View and is poised to put up even bigger numbers. Despite his youth, he managed the tempo of games well and created for himself and his teammates. He has a good feel for putting help side defenders in tough situations which either results in a shot for him or teammates. With that said, his shooting abilities open up the floor as he shot it near 45% from 3 this past season.
