Deng's versatility is all that I hear about from college coaches. When I have observed him, they have not been wrong. His ability to impact the game in so many ways makes him such a sought after prospect. He is a good athlete, a good shooter, and a tough defender. Further, he gets on the glass extremely well.

Due to all of the things he brings to the table, Salpointe will be extremely difficult to beat this upcoming season. He is a game changer and it would not be out of the realm of possibility by any stretch of the imagination that Salpointe links up with Shadow Mountain in the state title game once again.

One of the biggest obstacles for Deng will be that he is in 4A. Although his stats will be great, it is always hard to give the award to a 4A prospect when the stats and impact are comparable to someone doing it in a higher classification.

In addition, although Salpointe is definitely in the conversation for the state championship, they are not the overwhelming favorite. Shadow Mountain brings back solid guard play and plenty of talent.

Deng will be a game changer and consistently in the conversation for the player of the year as well as Mr. Basketball due to his freakish numbers and abilities. He is without a doubt one of the state's top prospects for high school and beyond.

Deng's chances of winning the award are quite high despite some of the obstacles. There are few players in the nation, not just the state, who can impact the game like Deng. His length and skillset make him a match-up nightmare for the opposition.

In addition, he is in a position to upend one of the state's top programs in Shadow Mountain. If they are able to accomplish that task and he continues to put up the numbers he is capable of, it would be hard to give the award anyone else.

Even if he does not win the award, he will have plenty of opportunities to play this game at the next level. This 2019 prospect will also have the chance to win it the following year.
