Wakefield Fall League Takeaways
ARLINGTON, VA — The Wakefield Fall League resumed on Saturday, and we stopped by to check out some of the action. Here is what we learned during our time in the gym.
ROWSON, DOUGLAS LEAD ROBINSON TO 1 POINT WIN
Robinson has two intriguing front court players in Greg Rowson and Anthony Douglas. The versatile Rowson, who now stands 6’5 after a remarkable growth spurt in recent months, did a bit of everything on both ends of the floor for the Rams. Douglas, a 6-foot-8 center who played with the Fairfax Stars this summer, commanded the ball, and made great decisions while in possession. Led by these two seniors, Robinson was able to record a one-point win over Wakefield.
QUENTIN MILLORA-BROWN FACILITATES SOCO IN WIN
This was our first opportunity to see Rice commit Quentin Millora-Brown in a Stallion uniform, and his ability to control the paint on both ends of the floor was evident right from the start of the game. With the 6’9 center anchoring the interior, the Stallions jumped out to an early 13-3 lead, and defeated West Potomac without relinquishing their advantage. “QMB” communicated exceptionally well on defense, and made it a point to get his teammates the ball in situations where they could be successful.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- Amari Cooper had the play of the day at Fall League when he stole the ball in the back court, and proceeded to posterize a defender. The long limbed 6’5 wing, who played with Mid Atlantic Select this summer, is currently receiving scholarship level interest.
- Daryl Mackey Jr. was the best player we saw in the gym on Saturday. The junior guard, who probably stands at 6’0, has very long arms and is ridiculously explosive. Mackey’s ball handling has improved, and his emphatic dunk against South County would have been the play of the day if not for Cooper.
- Jonas Munson had some nice moments despite West Po’s loss to South County. The 7-foot center stepped out and nailed a three from the top of the key, and worked hard defensively against “QMB”. The junior, who is receiving division one interest, has a chance to prove himself with ample playing time this year.
