Top 250 Expo: 2019 First Team
The players who participated in the Top 250 Expo at Pickerington North High School on Saturday all left it on the floor! During 5-on-5 and skill development, everyone involved pushed each other — creating a basketball environment that allowed prospects to grow.
As always, certain players stuck out amongst the crowd of 170+ participants. So, it’s only right that we recognize the top five performers in each class during our first day of recap coverage.
Anthony Garcia’s 2019 First Team
MVP: Trey Syroka, 5’10” PG, Toledo Whitmer
Ratez Roberts, 6’2” hybrid, Sidney
Brice Hill, 6’5” W, Seven Hills
Jaidon Lipscomb, 6’0” G, Pickerington Central
Little Anderson, 6’3” W, Cardinal Stritch
Like most talented ball-handlers, Syroka can create a clean look on any possession. Yet, he separated himself by creating shots for others throughout the day. Roberts has special leaping ability, which allowed him to dominate games by blocking shots and converting second chance points. Hill is a talented offensive weapon on the wing that D-II/NAIA school should evaluate. Lipscomb, like Syroka, created shots for others after drawing two defenders. Anderson is very quick out of his hesitation move and is able to finish in the lane.
Tony Peters’ 2019 First Team
MVP: Jaidon Lipscomb, 6’0” G, Pickerington Central
Ratez Roberts, 6’2” W/F, Sidney
D’shawnti Hawkins, 5’9” G, Clark Montessori
Gregory Phelia III, 6’1” G, Roger Bacon
Brody Lawhun, 6’0” G, Big Walnut
Lipscomb is a speedy guard with great ball handling. He found the open man even when he lured double teams from opposing defenses. Roberts is a physical wing with great defensive skill. He was a dynamic shot blocker especially on the perimeter. Hawkins showed great point guard talent with tremendous vision. He got to the rim with ease and has a dagger for a midrange shot. Phelia had a great shot all day, especially in the midrange game. Lawhun crashes the glass well for a guard.
