Tamell Pearson to UAB
The state’s top 2018 power forward is off the board. Morgan Park’s Tamell Pearson narrowed his list to six a few weeks ago, but after his first official visit to UAB he pulled the trigger on a commitment. He tells us why they were his choice.
“Opportunity to be successful and the players and coaches were like a family.”
What stood out on the visit that really sold him on their program?
“Talking with the former recruits and William Lee on how being at UAB changed their life.”
He told us about how they envision using him in their system.
“Being able to be a positionless player and do everything that affects the game on both ends.”
The 6’8” 2018 power forward from Morgan Park was mostly known as a rebounder that can occasionally contribute an easy bucket or two after his junior season. He showed much more than that with his play in this spring and was a standout in July. Pearson was aggressive when he touched the ball on the block. Quick baseline drives and a nice right handed hook shot. Most aggressive we have seen him throughout his career offensively was during the last four months. Snatched rebounds at a solid clip. He is currently the top power forward in the state and will remain so when the rankings are updated.
Huge get for UAB as they secured a commitment from a player that had multiple high-major offers. Pearson is currently the #15 overall prospect in the senior class and #1 power forward. He will be moving up in the new post-summer rankings that debut next Monday.
He played with the Mac Irvin Fire on the Nike EYBL circuit.
