Surging Sophomores Pt. II | Free
This is the 2nd installment of what will be 4 articles detailing several “surging sophomores” to mark down on your watch list in North Carolina.
Athletic! Jaquez Cooke is a dynamic athlete that uses his leaping ability and quickness to get to the rim. Has a good frame that enables him to take contact on his way to the basket and comfortably get to his sweet spots. Will probably have several highlight reel dunks this up & coming season as well as some huge scoring outbursts. Above average rebounder as well for a guard.
Christian Bullock is a tough & hard nosed defender with growing offensive ability off of the dribble. One of the better on ball defenders in his area. Offensively, he has good instincts that enable him to beat his man off the dribble and get to the rim. With the development of his 3 point shot, he could become a reliable scoring threat. Definitely one to keep an eye on over time.
As a freshman guard at Bartlett-Yancey HS, Dequondre Newman opened up plenty of eyes to those in his area. He’s a well built guard with loads of raw athleticism. A highlight waiting to happen when he gets his eyes on the rim. Very quick & strong off the dribble and slowly began to figure out how to allow his athleticism to work for him in games last season. One of the most athletically gifted guards in the state. Could have a huge impact at Western Alamance.
