PrepHoopsNC Standout Shooters: Part 1
One thing that is always valuable to a basketball program is having players that can make shots. North Carolina is stacked with top notch shooters all around the state. Here are a few standout shooters to take note of now and in the future.
After a huge summer playing with Stackhouse Elite 17U on the Adidas Circuit, Kris Wooten has garnered multiple Division 1 offers, rightfully so. He has one of the purest jump-shots in the Class of 2018. Has an excellent release point and a quick trigger that enables him to consistently get his shots off regardless of the defenses presented to him. Whether it’s off the catch or off the dribble, he must have a defender attached to him at all times or else you can nearly count the basket majority of the time a shot goes up. He currently holds offers from: Elon University, Boston University, University of Pennsylvania & Fordham.
An absolute marksman from 3 point range and mid-range. Has excellent form and rises quickly into his jump-shot. Fletcher Abee does a great job of using pump-fakes to get defenders leaping wildly off of the floor. Steps into every shot with superb confidence whether he’s just missed two shots in a row or made 5 in a row. By the percentage, not many players in the state of North Carolina are as accurate from all over the floor. He makes shots from everywhere consistently. He currently holds an offer from Western Carolina University.
Probably one of the tougher players on this list to cover. Why? On top of Dylan Blake being a great shooter from long range, his high school team encourages barrages of 3 point attempts, like in this game as a freshman where his team attempted 61 total 3-pointers! Not a typo. Since his freshman season, he’s gotten noticeably bigger, stronger and quicker while attacking the paint more. He also has short term memory while in action and doesn’t skip a beat even when he’s missed a few shots. Would be surprised if he didn’t finish in the top 5 of 3 point makes. He doesn’t currently hold any offers, but that will surely change over time for the young sophomore.
Probably the most underrated or lesser known shooters on this list, but Ahmad Jeffries also should be recognized among the elite shooters in the state of North Carolina. He buried 128 3-pointers last season alone at New Garden Friends High School. He’s consistent both off of the dribble and coming off of screens. Worth noting that he has a crafty in between game off of the dribble. Also, he possesses nice length and size at 6’3″ for the point guard position. Colleges should definitely give him a serious look. Could be a huge steal. He currently holds an offer from Bluefield University.
