Region 6 Preview
Region 6 is one of the top regions in the entire state and in 5A. The group features a number of returners who played big minutes last year en route to their team’s success. Although Olympus has to be the favorite at this point, the rest of the region has plenty of talent and will make it competitive to say the least.
Region 6 Preview
1. Olympus
Olympus will look to continue their dominance. Needless to say, they have the talent to do it. This group is the favorite to not only win this region but to win the state championship. They have one of the best backcourts in the state and can space the floor with the best of them due to their shooting abilities. Although they did lose a couple of talented prospects, Rylan Jones and Jeremy DowDell are solid and will pick up the production. Jones can impact the game in so many ways due to his high basketball IQ. He makes the right reads and does not force it. DowDell is a knock down shooter who can score in a variety of ways. Knocking off Olympus will be a tough task.
2. East
East should be excited about their potential for the upcoming season as well as their future. Recent Boise State commit Mikey Frazier will lead the way for the group. Although he has some areas that he will need to improve upon in order to be a big time college player, he brings a lot to the table at the high school level. He should be a double-double threat every single night. In addition to Frazier, East has a lot of young talent. A couple of young players who will continue to make big contributions on the varsity level are Taylor Zwick and Andre Mulibea Andre Mulibea 6'4" | CG East | 2020 State UT . Although Olympus is the favorite at this point, East and Highland are legitimate contenders for the Region 6 title as well as the state title.
3. Highland
Highland, like East, could win the region and the state title not only this year but in years to come. They bring back the majority of their team from last year and should be ready for a big year. Elijah Shelton will be the go to player for a loaded Highland team. He has a strong skill set and can do a little bit of everything. His balanced style of play makes him a key contributor. In addition to Shelton, Liki Makaui and Trayton Keyes will need to continue their strong play for Highland to reach their potential. Makaui has a great feel for the game despite his youth. His ability to put his teammates in positions where they can be successful is exceptional.
