Recruiting Report: Nate Seelye (2018)
Grand Rapids lost a lot to graduation. The Thunderhawks will still have high expectations this winter thanks in large part to Nate Seelye.
Seelye, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard, spent the grassroots season with Comets Servaty where he had a chance to play against top-level competition practically every weekend. That was huge for his individual development.
“It helps you improve a lot playing against top players in the state,” Seelye said. “The competition was always there. It’s a great time being able to challenge yourself against those kinds of teams and players.”
Seelye can do a lot on the court. He’s a strong 3-point shooter but also a creative slasher. He does a good job balancing looking for his own shot and distributing when he can. He’s also got great length and active hands, which allow him to be a menace on the defensive end of the floor.
Seelye’s drawn a lot of interest from a number of schools throughout Minnesota and North Dakota including Augsburg, Jamestown and Valley City.
“I’ll be taking a visit to Augsburg soon,” said Seelye. “I’m just keeping my options open right now.”
Seelye said he’s looking forward to this winter season with Grand Rapids. The Thunderhawks went to state last season and while they graduate a pair of NAIA players in Jake Skelly and Brock Schrom, the expectations aren’t changing.
“I’m excited,” said Seelye. “We have a lot of seniors and a great mix of young guys that will be some great help too. I’m excited to try to make some noise with the team and hopefully get back to the state tournament.”
