Recruiting Report: Michael Schaefer (2018)
St. Cloud Cathedral/Powerhouse MN senior Michael Schaefer had a very good summer playing club ball, and now the rangy forward is touring around and visiting campuses.
The first official campus visit was this last weekend when he and his parents went to Mankato.
“The visit was great,” Schaefer exclaimed. “I played some ball with the guys and really got to know the everyone on the team. The facilities down there are amazing, and it was fun to catch a football game!”
He added that his opinion of Minnesota State “definitely rose” after playing with the team and talking to his parents.
Another big contender is the hometown school St. Cloud State, which stopped by the Schaefer home for a visit last week.
“It went really well,” Schaefer commented. “They talked about where I would fit into their system as well as expressed where they are at for my position. SCSU is one of the schools that I’m interested in right now, for sure.”
This upcoming weekend, Schaefer is going out to Augustana for another NSIC visit. To him, those three are somewhat of a top group in his recruitment, although he hasn’t officially narrowed his list.
“There are some more schools that I would like to visit that would be in the top group as well,” Schaefer said of his favorites. “Some D1 schools are still texting and calling. Some of the new schools have been Loyola Marymount and Florida Southern.”
Schaefer is looking forward to gathering his thoughts after his visits and hopefully committing during the early signing period. The things that are most important to him in a school are feeling wanted by the coaching staff and getting to know the current players who would be his eventual teammates.
