Recruiting Report: LJ Owens (2018)
Severn School standout LJ Owens has seen a major uptick in his recruitment after a strong AAU campaign with DC Blue Devils, and is considered one of the best available seniors in the state of Maryland.
“I’m a scorer. I can finish, and shoot the three. I score a lot from mid range, and love to get team involved,” Owens said of his overall game. “My passing and rebounding are underrated.”
One thing we’ve liked about Owens is that he gets it done both on and off the floor. He’s an honor roll student, and a solid candidate for Patriot and Ivy League programs. Owens is a gym rat, and is always finding new ways to improve his game.
“My ability to drive an get to the lane, and also my 3 point stroke are the most improved parts of my game in the last 12 months,” Owens stated. “I’m working on being more of a lead guard, and my handle.”

Owens has proven that he can score, and play against the top competition in the country. He plays with an evident chip every time he’s on the court. Coaches love the way Owens can score, but also play all around and impact the game in many different ways.
“I want to go somewhere that I can be a impact player from day one, and have a big role,” Owens said about potential factors in his decision. “I have offers from Quinnipiac, William & Mary, Towson, Delaware, UMBC, Radford, St Joes, and Lehigh. Interest from Boston U & UNC Greensboro.”
Owens has not yet set up his officials, and is currently in the process of planning them. He said he is aiming to commit in November, but he’s not 100% sure. What can Owens bring to a college program?
“A hard-working kid who can impact the game in many ways on both offense and defense. I can be a standout from day one.”
