Recruiting Report: Kolby Warren (2019)
Louisiana’s 37th-ranked 2019, 6-foot-3 forward Kolby Warren had a nice summer playing with NOLA 23, and was able to see some recruitment come in because of it.
“I have Northwestern State University (interest), and I’m supposed to come check out that school sometime this year. And I’ve gotten some camp invites from Southeastern also,” said Warren.
“Also I have some junior colleges and NAIA school looking at me, like LSU-A.”
It’s his progressing versatility that these schools undoubtedly like, and Warren says he’s almost made a full transition to a wing.
“I’ve been playing the four in the past, but this year, during high school, they’ll have me playing the two of the three,” said Warren.
“My best ability is getting to the basket, and I try my hardest to work hard on defense before anything. And I’m trying to take my game out to hit 3s and jumpers more, and just make my game smoother.”
It was a successful 16U season, most notably with NOLA 23, that gave Warren some added confidence as he heads into his junior season at Slidell.
“This summer, I was playing with NOLA 23, and was in the starting lineup. It was good for me, because I got a lot more schools looking at me, and got some camp invites,” said Warren, who outlined his upcoming junior season.
“It’s going to be very different from last year. I’m choosing to step up and take that leadership role this year, because we’re mostly 2019s.”
He added: “Last year, we lost in the playoffs to soon, because we had a very young team, and I’m trying to change that this year.”
And for Warren, the goals are simple: to lead his team to state, and get some more college attention in the process.
“My personal goal is, I’m trying to get into a nice D1 college and go further on from there,” he said.
“I’m trying to get recruited now, there’s not much time to wait. High school is going fast, so I’m just trying to get out and get as much exposure as I can.”
