Recruiting Report: Kobe Dickson (2018)
Holcomb big man Kobe Dickson has flown under the radar throughout much of his basketball career, but is on the verge of blowing up after a big summer.
At 6’9, 205-pounds 2018 interior who can play the 4 or 5, Dickson has the ability to compete in the paint, shoot from the midrange and is a terrific shot blocker, able to protect the rim and the paint. After a strong summer with GTH 4XIII, Dickson says his confidence in his face-up game has grown.
“I would say I’m a big that’s rough inside with some touch outside,” Dickson said.
He helped Holcomb to a 24-1 record a year ago as he averaged 10 points, 7.0 rebounds, shot better than 60 percent from the field and even made 5 of 9 3-pointers.
“I’m excited about this high school season,” he said. “We’ll be pretty solid this year and I’ll expect nothing but the best out of us.
“One team I look forward to playing next year is Liberal because they were our only loss of the season,” Dickson said.
A fan of the Miami Heat’s Hassan Whiteside, Dickson says the biggest influence on his basketball career to date has been his dad.
“My dad because is the one who introduced it to me and took me to all my tournaments and stuff like that,” Dickson said. “I really enjoy watching Hassan Whiteside because he’s a great shot blocker and I try to implement his style of shot blocking into my game.”
Dickson currently has an offer from Division I Air Force and Division II Washburn, and has also drawn interest from Cornell University, who are expected to come on a home visit soon.
