Recruiting Report: John Parker (2018)
A transplant from the Southeast, John Parker has been wrecking-shop here in Utah since moving from Atlanta three years ago, and hopes to have one big senior year before heading off to pursue a hoops scholarship.
Currently, the 6-foot-3 Union guard has no offers, but is seeing some D1 interest come in — from far and near.
“I talk to Weber State a lot, and a few schools out East, like Drexel and Davidson,” said Parker.
“I actually have a shooting coach from out East in Philadelphia, and he knows a lot of the schools out there, and has been telling them about me and things like that.”
Parker hopes to have some scholarships secured by winter’s end, and would like to make a college decision sooner rather than later.
“I definitely want to have a school that I know I’ll be going to by the end of the school year,” he said. “I’m pretty much open to wherever. I’m not from Utah originally, I’m from Atlanta, so I’d pretty comfortable in other places.”
A sharpshooter, who is becoming increasingly diverse with his offensive skill-set, Parker mentioned just what is was he worked on this offseason with Utah Basketball Club 17U.
“I think shooting is probably my best skill. And I can make plays off the dribble and get other people open, and get others involved,” said Parker.
“And I thought I played pretty good this summer, we had some new guys, so it took a little time to get used to everyone. But I felt like I showed a lot of growth this offseason.”
He added: “I think I got better with my strength and quickness, and more of creating my own shot, rather than relying on a play or something like that.”
This winter will be Parker’s first season playing with Union. He spent his first three at Uintah.
“I’ll be the senior leader and everything,” he said. “I definitely want to get all-state, that’s something I want to to go for.”
