Recruiting Report: Jagger Miller (2018)
Jagger Miller was one of the many big men playing with North Dakota Phenom this past spring and summer. Playing on an oversized team forced him to expand his game for the better.
Miller, a 6-foot-6 forward from Devils Lake, has come up playing in the post for his high school team. He’s big and strong inside, has good hands and a soft touch. But playing on a team full of true big men – which ND Phenom was well-stocked with – meant Miller was oftentimes relegated to perimeter duties.
“It was definitely an adjustment but it was really good for me,” Miller said. “I had to get used to playing more on the wing and defending some of those smaller guys. I felt like I improved a lot especially defensively. Guarding smaller guys I think will help a lot during school basketball.”
Miller extended his shooting range to the point where he is comfortable facing up and knockind down shots to the 3-point line. He said he’s still working on extending his range further and said the next step will be to enhance his dribble attack moves as well. But for now, he’s productive without needing the ball because of his motor, ability to rebound and defend multiple positions.
Miller’s drawn a good amount of college interest to this point.
“I’ve heard from Concordia and Jamestown,” said Miller. “Got offered by Lake Region and I’ve talked with St. Scholastica. Also talked a little bit with U Mary. Just visited Concordia and a couple weekends ago I visited Jamestown. I like both schools, they are very nice. I’m just waiting for the best possible option for me. I’m not in a big hurry to make a commitment.”
Devils Lake may be a team in transition this upcoming winter as Miller is the only regular returning off a team that graduated a big senior class. But the Firebirds can have optimism thanks to Miller, who should be even better this season than he’s ever been before.
