Recruiting Report: Jacoby Decker (2019)
Big things certainly come in small packages, and Bossier 5-foot-8 point guard Jacoby Decker is living proof of that.
And though it’s not common to see sub-6-foot players playing Division I hoops, Decker has set that goal as his main recruitment priority.
Currently, Decker — Louisiana’s 11th-ranked 2019 — is seeing some interest come in from one in-state D1, and is hoping that a big junior season can strengthen his recruitment.
“My recruiting is going well, Northwestern State has been on me the most and I have a good relationship with Coach (Jeff) Moore,” said Decker.
“But recruitment’s not on my mind too much. I feel like as long as I work and get better, I have no worries. But my recruiting goal is to go D1.”
A lightning quick guard with great playmaking ability, Decker defined his style of play in his own words to PHLA.
“My strengths are getting to the goal and making the right plays as a point guard. I need to work on my ability to elevate as a smaller player playing against bigger opponents,” said Decker.
With his 16U season in the books, Decker says he’s pleased with how he performed, and now, he’s eager to showcase himself as a junior for the Bearkats.
“I played for Louisiana Select this last AAU season, and I played great in the summer. Now, my junior season is going to be great — we have a great team,” said Decker.
“My role is to be the man of the team this season. And my personal goal is to have as many D1 offers as I can before I decide where to continue playing basketball.”
