Recruiting Report: Eric Overgaard (2018)
With still his senior season left to showcase himself, Life Christian 6-foot-2 shooting guard Eric Overgaard is eager to show college coaches just what he can do.
Currently, the recruiting is a bit stagnant for Washington’s 92nd-ranked 2018, but he’s confident that after a summer prepping for this season, that will change.
“So far, all I really know of is University of Puget Sound, I know they were interested, that’s been mostly through my trainer, Charles Simmons. I was in there working out and the (Puget Sound) coach walked by and saw me,” said Overgaard.
“Right now, I’m just trying to get some more looks out there, and I just get my name out to a wider audience so I can get some options.”
He added: “I feel like I’ve been slept on the last year-and-a-half. So, I just really want to get my name out there. And this year is going to be big.”
Overgaard decided to forgo what would have been his 17U season of grassroots of grassroots ball, and instead workout on his own. He’s hoping that move pays off this winter.
“I’ve been getting in the gym working on my shot a lot, and that really helped me during the postseason last year. And also, my ability to handle the ball is a strength of mine,” said Overgaard.
“And I’ve got some new tricks now, like getting to the basket and driving. I’ve mainly been working on my strength, and then just upping my skills and my fundamentals.”
Now, as he heads into his senior season with the Eagles, he says it’s leadership, and taking his team back to state, that will be his main focuses.
And, of course, generating some more college attention.
“Last year I was a play-maker and distributed the ball. This year, I feel like it will be a lot more on me for the scoring, and I’ll be the leader of the team. And while scoring, I’ll still need to distribute the ball to my teammates,” said Overgaard.
“The expectations are to go back to where we got last year and make that state run. And we have a lot of new guys this year, so it will be a learning experience.”
He added: “For me personally, I just want to get my name out there for some college interest. That’s been kind of the main thing I’m going for.”
