Recruiting Report: Eli Campbell (2019)
Minneapolis North has a load of talent on their roster and one of the up and comers is guard Eli Campbell.
Campbell played with Grassroots Sizzle this past spring and summer and the experience was big for Eli’s development.
“AAU went well,” Campbell told Prep Hoops. “I played a lot of competition and felt like I got a lot of exposure over the summer.
“My biggest take away from the last four months will be playing at a fast pace and communicating with my teammates and making sure they’re doing what there supposed to be doing.”
Last winter the stacked North Polars won their second straight state title. The uber talented backcourt included Tayler Johnson, Marquis Holloman, Nasir El-Amin, JaQuan Sanders-Smith, Zion Sanford, and Trejuan Holloman was tough to crack for time for all of them but Campbell saw some himself.
Campbell joins Johnson, El-Amin, Sanford, and Trejuan forming a deadly group of five that will likely rotate among the three spots this year (or they can certainly play four guards). What does Eli plan on doing to stand out?
“I’m focusing on my defense this off season, getting faster and stronger, and shooting the ball,” Campbell said.
Add those guards to Odell Wilson IV, Da’Kei Hines, and Da’Kei Hines and you have a team ready to compete for a state title.
“The outlook I have for my team this season coming up, talent wise is we have what it takes to 3-peat, even though we moved up a class,” Eli said.
“I still believe that we have enough athletes to step up and replace the seniors from last year. My outlook on our goal is the same for every year. Playing in the Target Center and coming back to North with the banner.”
Campbell was in Las Vegas in the Fab 48 and the experience earned him some interest.
“My last AAU tournament in Vegas I got a little interest From West Virginia. A few days ago I got two letters from Augustana University and Winona State University.”
Campbell plans on continuing his work to improve as a player prospect. He tries to pattern his game after the best.
“Isaiah Thomas really influenced my game a lot,” Eli said. “We are the same as far as being the shortest on the court. But he makes it look easy. Averaging 30 a game really tells me it doesn’t matter about how big you are it matter how big of a heart you have and how hard you play.”
