Recruiting Report: Devon Flowers (2018)
Scan the list of the best available bigs in the DMV, and Devon Flowers immediately stands out among the most versatile. The 6’8+ senior, who led the Potomac School in points, rebounds, and blocks last season, is in line for another productive season under Head Coach Levi Franklin.
“I’m versatile, and skilled. I like to use my skill, size and athleticism to get past defenders and finish,” said Flowers of his overall game. “I learned that I can compete on a high level. I’ve learned that to be recruited, it’s not just about scoring but doing the intangibles also.”
In the last twelve months, Flowers has seen his confidence grow significantly. He’s become more aggressive while adding vital strength and athleticism. Flowers says he’s still working on everything as he’s nowhere near where he wants to be.
“Help defense. I try my best to stick to SHELL principles,” Flowers stated when asked to describe an underrated aspect of his game. “I have offers from Mount St. Mary’s, Coastal Carolina, Towson, UNC Asheville, Loyola, JMU, Canisius, and American. UMass, and Cincinnati have reached out to my high school coach.”
Flowers has taken unofficial visits to Loyola, American, The Mount, and JMU. He’s set to take three official visits so far: to Coastal Carolina on September 7, Loyola the 15th, and JMU the 22nd. While most schools love the skill set and versatility Flowers boasts, they all say he must focus on getting stronger.
What can Flowers bring to a college program?
“Versatility. Being able to start the break. Knock down shots. Get to the rim, and finish. Rebound. Post up smaller defenders, and blow by bigger defenders as well as defend multiple positions. Just being a matchup nightmare for the opposing team.”
What factors does Flowers consider key in his college decision?
“A school that wants and needs me. A school that’s going to help me develop into the player I want to be, and help me reach my goal of playing professionally. A coaching staff that is genuine and wants his players to succeed. Also a school that can prepare me for life after school.”
