Recruiting Report: DeSean Foy (2018)
Good things could be coming this season for Sioux City West, and 6-foot-2 guard DeSean Foy will be there to help guide the way.
Foy came onto our radar this summer while playing with Showtime Hoopers 17U at the Prep Hoops Battle at the Lakes. And after a strong offseason, and a junior year in which he averaged 7.9 points per game, colleges are checking in on him too.
“I’ve been contacted by Northwestern and Missouri State. And then I went to Sioux Falls’ elite camp, and that was good. And (Showtime Hoopers program director) Coco Cofield told me about Briar Cliff and Simpson, and how they’re looking at me,” said Foy.
A very good outside shooter, Foy has been working to improve his ability to get to the rim, and has now made himself a diverse threat offensively.
“My offensive game is changed up. I used to just only be a shooter, that’s all I used to do. So then I had to change my game up, because everyone would just come out on me. Then, I started putting the ball on the ground and getting to the deck,” said Foy.
“After about two years, since my sophomore season to this season, my handles have changed a lot for the better.”
He spent his summer excelling with one of the state’s better 17U units, Showtime Hoopers. Where he played alongside West teammate and Iowa’s 20th-ranked 2019, Cliff McCray.
“I play with a really good guard, Cliff McCray, and playing with him makes you better. He draws a lot of attention, and he’s not a teammate that’s selfish. He’ll get you your looks,” said Foy.
“We also had good coaches, practice was so intense, and then we got to games and everyone was ready and focused.”
This winter, Foy will help lead a West squad that has legit state tournament aspirations. He knows if he can get his team to the state tourney, college coaches will take notice.
“I hope I get an offer, my main goal is to get out of where I’m from, and better myself for my future. I’m going to go out my senior year and win games, not worry about myself and take West to state, because I know that hasn’t happened for awhile,” said Foy.
“I’m going to do what I’m told, play my role and hopefully some colleges offer me.”
