Recruiting Report: David Roddy (2019)
David Roddy is the third ranked basketball AND football prospect in the state of Minnesota for juniors. That is a rare accomplishment in itself.
Breck is 3-1 this year and as a smaller school they are at the Class AAA level of play. With only 19 upperclassmen on it’s football roster Breck of course puts their best player at the quarterback position and Roddy has excelled once again.
Several football programs are calling Roddy and with good reason.
“Minnesota, Louisville, Northwestern and North Dakota State have shown interest in me for football,” David Roddy said. “Louisville has been contacting me a little bit, and I’m going to the Wisconsin vs. Northwestern game.
“North Dakota State visited me last week, and then I visited Minnesota for their game against Middle Tennessee, so that’s pretty much it for right now. All these schools see me at quarterback as well.”
Roddy was seen on the sidelines with Coach PJ Fleck as well as family before that game against Middle Tennessee. Roddy talked about his visit with Minnesota.
“Everything with Minnesota right now has been about just getting to know me for football. Right now, they’ve watched my film and they are interested about me and Breck as a small school and some other basic things.
“At the game, they just told me basic things like they were excited to see me there and excited to watch me the rest of the season, but nothing too big.”
Roddy is still deciding between football and basketball for college, but he’s not too worried about it.
“I don’t have a preference between basketball and football, as I’m still enjoying the stress free process before I start to think about it,” Roddy said.
“I would be excited no matter who offered me. The feeling doesn’t get old. But it would be great to potentially get an offer from Minnesota for football. I think that have a lot going well right now, and I’m excited to see what’s next for them.”
Northern Iowa and North Dakota have offered Roddy basketball scholarships so far.
Roddy has thrown 123 passes through four games completing nearly 56 percent of them for 982 yards and a dozen touchdowns against 6 INTs (four of them were versus Minneapolis North). David has also ran for four scores, has 17 tackles on defense, he’s averaging 47 yards as a punter, and has caught a two point conversion!
Roddy is coming off a big number basketball season as well where he was a single game away from leading his team to state.
