Recruiting Report: Charlie Gorres (2019)
Park of Cottage Grove has taken steps forward as of late and junior forward Charlie Gorres is a big reason why.
Gorres played with the Minnesota Fury 16u club in April through July and picked up more experience that should help him lead this winter.
“The AAU year went great, we had a lot of quality wins,” Charlie told Prep Hoops. “And I had a lot of fun playing with the guys. We had great chemistry on and off the court.
“I made some good friends and we made a lot of fun memories. I think the biggest take away from this season is the importance of being a versatile player and being able to adapt to different situations within a game.”
Gorres is one of the more agile and hard working forwards in Minnesota’s junior class. He’s know working to become a more skilled talent as well.
“I’m working on a quicker release on my shot and ball handling,” Gorres explained.
Charlie gave the Wolfpack 15 points, 6.3 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks a game last season. He led the team in all four of those areas and should be even better this winter.
“I’m super excited for this upcoming year. We have big holes to fill because we lost the majority of our rotation to graduation. Even though we will be young and inexperienced we have guys working hard to step up and fill the holes.
“Our conference is super tough so our first goal is to compete in every game and improve throughout the year another goal is to win a section game because we have been in a long drought.”
Gorres has the potential to be a scholarship recruit. At this point NSIC programs and others are in contact.
“I’m hearing the most from Augustana, St. Cloud State, Winona State, Jamestown, and St. Thomas,” Charlie said.
Gorres watches basketball at all levels and finds things to take from several different players. Pros and local rivals included.
“There have been multiple people who have influenced different parts of my game,” explained Charlie. “The work ethic of Mike Jones (Woodbury) and the passing of D’Angelo Russell when he was on Ohio State.
“But the person who has influenced me the most is Courtney Brown Jr. We were teammates through traveling basketball years constantly pushing each other to make us better, now that we go to different high schools our friendly rivalry keeps pushing me to be the best all around player I can be.
“My favorite hoppers are Tre Jones because he does everything on the court and Kevin Durant because he is an all around player too.”
