Recruiting Report: Brayden Gault (2018)
When you ask someone about what’s most important in the sport of basketball, chances are they’re going to say having the ability to put the ball in the basket. After all, that’s ultimately how games are won. For Battefield’s 2018 guard Brayden Gault, scoring isn’t an issue. In fact, he may be one of the top scorers in the DMV this season when it’s all said and done.
The 6’4 guard is a lethal shooter from deep, but with a strong build, he can also finish around the rim through contact. The most important aspect about Gault’s scoring ability is his efficiency. Rarely will you see him throw up a shot that is out of rythym or shoot a contested shot not far after the possession began. With that being said, he’s quick to attack seams and openings that present themselves when the defense blanks or lacks rotation.
Gault doesn’t have to score in order to impact a game. He’s a hard worker on both ends and with his strong build, has the ability to control the glass throughout periods of a game.
Gault had a tremendous summer for Team Takeover, describing it as his “best consistent summer.” Gault averaged a double-double consisting of 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. Throughout the spring/summer, Gault kept in mind a few key improvements that he wanted to make. One was getting laterally quicker. He did this by implementing much more vertimax training into his regime. The other area he really focused on was ball handling. Gault knows at the next level, there are going to be times where he is expected to put the ball on the floor much more than he has thus far.

Gault currently has an offer from Shepard (Division II) and a bunch of interest from other Division II programs such as UNC-Pembroke, Belmont Abbey, Catawba, Lincoln Memorial and Concord. While he is very pleased with his list, Gault is still trying to court a Division I offer.
“Location doesn’t matter to me because my family is moving when I go to college,” Gault said describing his priority list for college. “I’m thinking about majoring in sports medicine and minoring in business. I just want to be somewhere that’s a good fit, good facilities and coaches that believe in me.”
In terms of this high school season, Gault is a strong believer that his team this season will improve from last year’s 15-12 finish.
“I think we have a good team,” Gault told PrepHoops. “We have a lot of chemistry that we didn’t have last year and we’re all friends. I think we can go far. The goal is to get that ring, and I definitely think that is possible.”
Gault averaged 18 points per game throughout his junior campaign. Expect that number to jump and for Battlefield to tally more wins than last year as they chase their pursuit of a championship.
