Recruiting Report 2018: Isaiah Burke
Isaiah Burke, 6’1″, PG, Bowie Bulldogs HS. Bowie MD.
Grassroots Team: Team St8ment 17U
Grassroots Team: New World 17U
We believe Isaiah Burke is poised for a breakout year for Bowie HS in 2017/18. Last season Isaiah played alongside 2 D1 guards in 6’4″ Quinton Drayton now at Towson State & 6’4″ Jalen Robinson who will play for Morgan State. Isaiah was a starter averaging 8ppg & 5 assists & 3 steals per game & did open some eyes of college scouts. We scouted him last week at the DMV Elite 80 Showcase in Bowie, MD where he played against many of the top DC/Baltimore DMV players for 2018, 2019 & 2020. Isaiah clearly stood out with his excellent all around play. Also, in attendance was his back-court teammate for this season, 6’1″ 2020 CG Kyree Freeman-Davis for whom we wrote a Recruiting Report in the link below. Isaiah & Kyree have a close bond on & off the court with Isaiah playing the role as Kyree’s big brother.

The duo will form one of the best & underrated back-courts in DC DMV this coming season. Isaiah will run the Point this year for the guard oriented Bulldogs. We are very impressed his PG skill set & versatility. He plays with a very high IQ and Isaiah is a winner. We believehe is a an under the radar gem in the DC/DMV.Isaiah possesses an elite jump shot with great mechanics. He utilizes a cross over pull up that freezes his opponents & is almost impossible to guard which he can convert from anywhere on the court. Isaiah can dribble penetrate & can finish thru contact on both sides with either hand. Isaiah is quick & fast with a superb handle & always keeps his head up as he reads his progressions. While Isaiah can explode for scoring outbursts, he is an elite facilitator who can make all the passes. We have seen him covert assists on pocket passes, hit front & rear trailers, alley oops & kick-outs from dribble penetration where Isaiah draws multiple opponent to him. He is a ball mover whose moves are quick & concise & Isaiah utilizes a quick & go move to perfection.
Isaiah plays both sides of the ball with high energy the entire game. On defense he has great lateral movement & concentration beating his opponent to their desired location. Isaiah is good for 3 plus steals per game & he has potential to shut down the player he is guarding. He plays tough on ball pressure & when needed his team & help side defense is very, very good. We have seen Isaiah impact the game without scoring & he will perform all the intangibles. He plays with a toughness & edge we love in players. In our opinion Isaiah will follow in his back court teammates lead from last season and become a D1 player, if not already.
It is very easy to observe that Isaiah puts a lot of work in his game. He works drills with his Dad before school. After school Isaiah goes to the shooting machine and puts up 500 plus shots. In the evening he works strength & conditioning, plyos & speed agility & explosion. We chatted with Isaiah & asked him how he has improved since the season ended this April at Bowie HS,” I have gotten stronger, increased my vertical, improved my left hand to the extent it is as good as my right & increased my shooting range. My current goals are to continue my strength & conditioning development, get quicker, and keep increasing my range & vertical. I watch a lot of You Tube and study Damian Lillard, Isaiah Thomas, Chris Paul & Tyler Ulis. Additionally, I like to watch full game replays studying players decision making & overall game skills.”
Coming from a close knit family Isaiah names his mother, father who is his #1 mentor and older brother Perris as his role models. This spring & summer Isaiah started off his Grassroots play for Team St8ment 17U where he averaged 14ppg & 6 assists. In July Bowie HS named Tremaine Price as Head Coach where he transferred from nearby Parkdale HS. Since Coach Price coached for New World , Isaiah switched to NW because he wanted to become familiar with his new HC. He finished the season with New World averaging 12ppg, 4 assists & three 3 pointers made per game. Isaiah adds,” Coach Price & I have developed a great relationship & look forward to playing for him & my teammates. Coach Price has become very involved in my college recruitment & I am very grateful.” To date Hampton University has offered Isaiah & Delaware, George Mason, Jacksonville State, Norfolk State, Georgia State, Howard, Loyola of MD, Morgan State & Austin Peay all showing interest.
In the classroom Isaiah maintains a 3.0 plus GPA & is considering Engineering a major in college. Bowie will begin their Fall League next week in early October preseason practice begins for the Bulldogs. Isaiah is optimistic this season & some of his goals are to win a MD 4A State Title, help his teammates go to college, work together as a team, and Isaiah wants to lead MD 4A in steals. We will be providing extensive coverage for Bowie HS, Isaiah & his teammates with live game reports & player articles.
