Recruiting Report 2018: Daniel Oladapo
Daniel Oladapo, 6’7.5″, WG/WF, Bladensburg HS Mustangs. Bladensburg, MD.
Grassroots Team: New World 17u
Daniel is one of the top players in the DC/DMV holding currently holding D1 offers from Radford, Towson State, Cansisuis, & UNC Greensboro. He is a tremendous all around player & once again will be the Bladensburg HS Mustangs Captain. He is an excellent defender who can guard multiple positions & Coach Williams says he will be a rim protector this season.
Daniel has become very skilled on the perimeter making him a powerful inside out offensive player. He can attack the rim off the dribble, drain pull ups & hit 3s. He plays with a very high motor, defends at high level & hits the boards with a great purpose.
Last Saturday he was one of the best players in the DMV Elite 80 & awarded to the 1st Team All Star team. When his career began at Bladensburg Daniel was low post player & has now evolved into a WG/WF thru his hard work & great coaching at Bladensburg. Daniel is a superbly conditioned chiseled powerful athlete & a very versatile player on both sides of the ball. He played very well for the DC Blue Devils 17u this season on the UAA Grassroots Circuit.
While Daniel is currently offered by D1 mid majors, we see something in his game where he could land many more offers at a higher level. He is very tough, poised, plays with a high motor, a team leader & winner. His rebounding skills are excellent & Daniel possesses great timing & utilizes his wingspan to block shots & snatch rebounds out of the air that seem unreachable.
On offense Daniel has an arsenal of low post moves. He can shoot jump hooks with either hand angling towards the rim where he converts a high % of his attempts. Daniel can power up his opponents, utilize an up & under move or a drop step. We have seen him score on spin moves, reverse lay-ins with both hands & rim rattling dunks. Over the last year Daniel has developed an excellent 3 point shot & he adds, “We have a great Coaching Staff at Bladensburg who have helped my game tremendously. Additionally, Curtis Yarborough is my Personal Trainer for last 5 years who has been a very big influence in my development.”
Last season Daniel had a splendid season for the Mustangs who posted a 17-5 record in the very tough Prince Georges County 4A. He averaged 26 points & 13 rebounds with a 50% plus FG percentage. Traditionally, the best MD 4A conference in Maryland is the PG 4A which could be the best again for 2017/18. Bladensburg will be a top tier team which includes Wise, Eleanor Roosevelt, & possibly Bowie & up an coming CH Flowers as possible contenders. We have seen Daniel make continual progress & last week he proved he is one of the most impressive conditioned athletes we have seen this summer. Daniel was tireless & his overall athleticism which was already very impressive was improved. One aspect that keeps evolving is Daniel’s perimeter skills & he says, “We are working a lot on my shooting the 3 ball off the dribble & improving my rim attacking off the dribble from half court sets. I work out at least 6 days a week at Bladensburg or with Mr. Yarborough. We continually work on all aspects of basketball in addition to strength & conditioning. I do plyos, resistance training, maneuverability drills, jump rope, during the week.” Daniel likes to study Kevin Durant & Paul George on cable an You Tube & take some aspects from each player to pattern his game. We can definitely see some similar traits of KD & Paul George in his playing style.
In the classroom Daniel maintains an excellent 3.4 GPA & he may be interested in majoring in English is college. Daniel knows he wants to attend college, but is not ruling out the possibility of attending a Prep School next season possibly following the footsteps of Eleanor Roosevelt grad Naji Marshall who finished 2017 ranked in the top 60 players in the nation and is now attending Xavier.
