Prospect Spotlight: Jordan Guerrero (2019)
Each year we discover under-the-radar talent at the top 250 expos, and this year was no different. Jordan Guerrero, a 6-foot-4 wing from Newtown, was a breakout performer at the Maryland Top 250 Expo last weekend. The junior, who played on the grassroots circuit with Team Rebel, appears poised for a breakout season.
“I’m just an an all-around player,” said Guerrero, who say’s he’s been playing basketball since the age of five. “I try to do a bit of everything. Get rebounds. Spread the floor. Pass the ball. Shoot the three. Shoot the pull up.”
Guerrero caught our eye initially during skill work, where his intriguing blend of athleticism and skill was on display. The long limbed wing is a rangy athlete, and an explosive finisher at the basket. Guerrero says he’s been working hard on his athleticism, and the results were evident last weekend.
“The most improved part of my game is just getting to the basket being more explosive,” he stated. “I need to work on getting my handles better, my jump shot more consistent, and just helping my teammates win every game. I enjoy getting rebounds, boxing out, and talking to my teammates.”
It’s hard to believe that no one is recruiting Guerrero at this point. He says he has a 3.5 GPA, and if he works half as hard in the classroom as he does on the court, then he’s worth taking a chance on. What can Guerrero bring to a college program?
“Someone that’s gonna want to play and win every game. Play defense and offense.”
