Prospect Spotlight: Derrick Prout (2018)
2018 guard Derrick Prout is hard on himself.
The East Lake starter says his junior season didn’t go as well as he wanted it to go. The Eagles lost to Countryside in the Class 8A-District 10 semifinal while finishing the season 16-10.
“I think I could’ve played better for the whole season overall,” Prout said. “I’ve matured as a player and that will help my game and help me get better at scoring at all three levels. I will be one of the leaders on the team scoring the ball. I’m focusing on being tougher with the ball and getting a better handle.”
At 6’4″, 180 lbs., Prout has the size and the length to hang tough defensively while serving as a mismatch on offense.
He averaged 9.0 points per game last season which included a career-best 20 point performance against Coral Reef where he shot 8-of-11 from the field.
This summer, he spent his third year with The Warehouse Ballers
“My AAU experience was great. I think I played a lot of good competition and played at a high level,” Prout said.
Prout started playing organized basketball in the 8th grade. He called his biggest strength, his 3-point shooting while he’s aiming to improve his dribbling and ability to attack the rim.
No offers have come yet for the senior, but he’s drawn interest from Sage College. Prout is a smart kid who hustles on both ends of the floor. He knows what he needs to polish up in his game in order to boost his stock.
