Prospect Spotlight: Coban Porter (2020)
Coban Porter (Columbia, Mo.) – Porter is the younger brother of MoKan Elite 17U standout Jontay Porter and Michael Porter Jr., the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2017 who has signed to play at Missouri.
Of course, he is a smart basketball player like his siblings and doesn’t make many mistakes with the ball. Porter is physical on the defensive end and seems to do all the little things for the 15U squad. Porter hit a go-ahead jumper for MoKan, but if he can get his shot to be as consistent as his brothers, he will be in really good shape. He has a lot of potential to blow up over the next couple of years and it will be fun to watch him grow as a player.
He is a guy who doesn’t take a play off and is a very vocal leader which is uncommon for someone of his age. Coban can get his shot from anywhere on the court but is best finishing around the basket. He is very quick, which helps him on the defensive end where he is a force to be reckoned with.
As mentioned earlier, Coban is capable of playing the 1 and the 2. This is due in large part of his solid handle, shooting abilities, and basketball IQ. He does a good job of playing mistake free basketball and playing his role. Furthermore, when he gets into the paint, he createshigh percentage shots for himself as well as for his teammates.
