Prospect Spotlight 2020: Kyree Freeman-Davis
Kyree Freeman-Davis, 6’1″, CG, 2020. Bowie Bulldogs HS. Bowie, MD.
Grassroots Team: DC Blue Devils 15U
This Saturday in Bowie, MD, our friends from DMV Elite presented the 2017 DMV Eite 80 showcase which featured many of the top players in the Washington, DC DMV & some Baltimore DMV players from 2018, 2019 & 2020. We had heard reports on Kyree Freeman-Davis, and the sophomore from Bowie HS stood out playing against upperclassmen Saturday afternoon. Kyree plays well beyond his years physically & mentally & is a very mature young man, He is currently ranked at #30 in our 2020 ranking with great potential to move up. Kyree caught our eye immediately with his high elevation & picture perfect jump shot. He was knocking down jumpers from the perimeter & close to the basket mid range conversions. His shot resembles Lloyd Free who played on the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA in the 1970s and for the Clippers in 1980s.
Last season Kyree played on the Bowie varsity as a true freshmen & Towson State D1 commit Quinton Drayton took Kyree under his wing. Quinton has laid the foundation for Kyree who we believe is well on his way as a D1 recruit. We expect him to be a go to player for Bowie HS & we chatted with Kyree this weekend. We asked him about his offensive skill-set & he said, “My mid range pull up in which I use 2 dribble moves & attacking the rim off the dribble are strong points. I like the pick & roll, ,can score off a flex cut cut pull-up and alley oops.”On Saturday Kyree scored from all 3 levels on both sides of the court showing a high release & unique, but great shot mechanics. His vertical is so high we were distracted on his release time, but his shot never came close to being blocked. Kyree runs the 100 & 200 meters in track & he possesses excellent explosion with a great 1st step & vertical. He is very powerfully built at 173 pounds & can blow by defenders in transition or in the half court for a viscous dunk.
While Kyree has elite scoring skills, he is a proven excellent defender. This summer Kyree played for several DC Blue Devils rosters where he was the teams go to defender. Kyree thrives for the challenge of guarding the opponents top guard & displays excellent lateral quickness & footwork. Kyree works out daily on all phases of basketball in addition to strength & conditioning with his Trainer Evan Ellison. He adds, “I am focusing on my ball handling & using my left hand. In the future I want to transition to the 1 & this season I will be the alternate PG when Isaiah Burke (2018) is resting. Currently, I am a very strong strong drive & dish player, and I will learn how to run our half court with Coach Price who transferred from nearby Parkdale HS in the summer.” Additionally, Isaiah Burke caught our eye Saturday & he will form a potent back court duo with Kyree. We will be writing a Recruiting Report for Isaiah very shortly.
Almost every high school player in the nation studies a player in the NCCA and/or NBA & Kyree in no different. He likes to emulate the skill-set of #1 NBA draft pick Markell Fultz from nearby DeMatha HS & #3 NBA draft pick from Duke, Jayson Tatum for his mid range game. He comes from a close knit family & lists his parents as role models in addition to his older brother who is now attending Penn State & slated to play basketball this season. Kyree also names Keith Williams, Trainer Evan Ellison & Bishop O’Connell PG Ayan Teel who rate very high on & off the court. Like his brother at PSU, Kyree plans to major in Communications & he is a very solid student with 3.0 plus GPA. Currently, Robert Morris & Lafayette are very interested in Kyree & this season his offer list should expand greatly.
We will be covering Bowie HS, Kyree, Isaiah & other Bowie players providing live game reports & player articles.
