Prospect Rankings Update: 2018 Top Point Guards (Tier 2)
While the 10 best point guards in Tennessee will play D1/D2 basketball, the second tier only features two future surefire D1 players (Carlos Sandifer, Cooper Smith). The rest need to prove a lot in the coming months.
You can see the complete 2018 rankings here.
#28 Carlos Sandifer
After bouncing around the AAU circuit for a few years Sandifer found a home this July. He played for the Jackson Tigers and scored about 17 ppg with 6 apg.
#30 Jaden Lewis
Demontay Dixon’s friend and teammate, Jaden Lewis is a natural scorer. Listed as a point guard Lewis has a knack for scoring. He gets in to the lane with ease and can play college basketball with added strength.
#32 Levert Smith Jr.
Oak Ridge floor general Levert Smith Jr. pushed an admittedly deep team all the way to Murfreesboro. The lefty did not play AAU, but watch for his senior campaign. The guy knows how to lead and distribute.
#34 Dennis Stallings
Stallings is a hard-charging lefty guard. He loves playing uptempo basketball and yet Stallings’ quick-release jumper kills ’em in the halfcourt too.
#37 Bryce McBride
Bryce McBride ranks himself right up with Alex Lomax, Tyler Harris, and the best guards in west Tennessee.
#39 Justin Dozier
The height of Justin Dozier (East Hamilton) is only thing inhibiting his recruitment. Dozier can hit the outside J and obviously change directions quicker than most high school guards.
#44 Keyonte Calloway
When Ensworth lost James Wiseman to Memphis East, Keyonte Calloway’s urgency to lead became much, much more pressing. He has been a varsity contributor for three straight years.
#46 Chris Hunter
The truest sleeper of the bunch, rugged Chris Hunter (Austin-East) spent the last four years evolving from a powerful rebounder to a unflinching, hard-charging guard capable of intensifying a game. Hunter will play football for Army, but had LM potential on the hardwood.
#51 Leland Kirkendoll
Former KIPP starter, TWSA All-State Class A recipient, Leland Kirkendoll is spending a post-grad year with Tennessee Prep Academy.
#52 Cooper Smith
Hendersonville’s Cooper Smith picked up a Coastal Carolina offer mid-July. He probably deserves a mid-30’s ranking, but we are holding off to evaluate him in-season. Working for Cooper are his height (6-foot-4), unselfishness, and defensive commitment.
