Program MVP: Ethan Schuemer
Who was the MVP of each grassroots team program this past spring and summer? This might not necessarily be the best player although in many cases it is. We are looking at the player from Illinois that elevated their game and stepped up when it mattered most taking both themselves and their teams to the next level.
Mercury Elite had another solid group at all age levels this past summer on the circuit. Their 17U group was extremely fun to watch play. They are skilled at all positions and pass the ball extremely well. The player that is the epitome of what this team was about is Willowbrook 2018 power forward Ethan Schuemer. That is why he wins the program MVP award for Mercury Elite. Schuemer is a skilled face up four man that can knock down some shots from mid-range. Handles it solid from 15 feet and in. Does a lot of his damage however on the block where he gets after it with fundamentally sound post moves using his outstanding footwork and a soft touch around the hoop to covert. Despite not being the biggest he has a knack for scoring on the block. Also runs the floor tremendously well getting from end to end while having his head up looking to catch a pass for a score. Fights on the boards and is a sound passer both on the block and out of the high-post area.
Congratulations to Willowbrook 2018 power forward Ethan Schuemer on winning the PrepHoopsIllinois Program MVP for Mercury Elite.
