Next In Line: 2020 Prospects | Free
In conclusion to the quartet of “Surging Sophomore” write-ups, I’ll be detailing several prospects who could be “Next In Line” at their respective schools in each class year. Salen Streater, Nicholas McMullen, Linwood Grandy, Sterling Santa-Maria, Karsen Perkins & Chris Mitchell all have the potential to step up and make big impacts for their high school teams.
Salen Streater – 6’0” PG – Monroe HS
Salen Streater is a crafty & shifty point guard prospect that has plenty of room to continue developing. Could be an extremely tough match-up night in & night out sooner than later. Has the ability to change directions very well and is very efficient dribbling into his jump-shot from mid-range as well as from 3 point range. Defensively, he has quick hands and can get into a ball-handlers head with constant pressure. Quietly had a strong freshman season at Monroe High School.
Nicholas McMullen – 6’7” – Eastern Guilford HS
Nicholas McMullen is a really active & lengthy forward prospect. Can be really bouncy around the rim and has the potential to be a complete terror on the glass every night. Played sparingly for an excellent Eastern Guilford team that made a state title appearance in his freshman year. Should undoubtedly be a larger contributor after a fine summer.
Linwood Grandy – 6’4” F – Wayne Country Day
Linwood Grandy is a wing prospect that has a lot of good tools. Physically, his body is capable of absorbing contact inside and he’s a very deceptive athlete. Off the dribble, when he’s aggressive he can be a match-up problem due to his combination of size & quickness. Should gain plenty of good experience at Wayne Country Day and could develop into a solid overall player.
Sterling Santa-Maria – 6’2” G/F – Cherokee High School
Sterling Santa-Maria is vastly underrated as a player. Had a highly productive freshman season that saw him average near 14 points, 6 rebounds & 3 steals per game. Doesn’t possess the prototypical body of a wing, but has the jump-shot & IQ that allows him to put up good numbers on a consistent basis. Loves to sprint the floor and knock down 3 pointers in transition. Attacks closeouts well using quick 2 dribble moves directly into a pull-up jumper.
Karsen Perkins – 6’7” F – Northwest Cabarrus
Karsen Perkins is an intriguing big man prospect. Despite his size, he moves really well and in spurts he creates from the wing. Will surprise a defender with his first step and can rise up to dunk the ball pretty easily in traffic. Dealt with some injuries as a freshman, but don’t be surprised if he becomes a double-double threat down the line.
Chris Mitchell – 6’4” G – North Lenoir HS
Chris Mitchell is a long and explosive wing from LaGrange, NC. Has all of the tools to become a dynamic wing prospect should he put it all together. In the open floor, he’s a terror and finishes well above the rim. Defensively, his length causes issues and he gets plenty of deflections. Plays with a lot of emotion. If he works hard enough and keeps his emotions in tact, could become quite the player.
