Louisiana Top 250 Camp: Top 2020 Performers
Jalen Cook 6’0 G Walker
After watching him at the Top250 camp, there is little doubt in my mind that Jalen Cook is the top player of the 2020 class. (You guys will get to see the rest of the Louisiana 2020 rankings when they are released next week) He can attack the rim and finish super strong around the rim through contact. He sees the floor well, and he can find the open guy when needed. It will be interesting to see how far Walker can get in the playoffs this year with Cook at the helm.
Jahmal Byers 5’9 G Ville Platte
Byers and Cook were actually on the same team, so I wasn’t able to see them go head to head like I would have liked, but he was still able to show why he is going to be a top guard. He is a menace when getting to the rim, and plays much bigger than 5’9. He has a few different finishes in his repertoire, but can still get better at finishing there. When he is locked in, he can be a big disruptor on the defensive end.
Caleb Anderson 6’3 F West Feliciana
Caleb is a long athletic 3/4 tweener, but he doesn’t look to be done growing yet. I expect him to get up to 6’5+, and if he does, he will be one to keep an eye on going forward. His skill level is still catching up to his size, but he finishes around and above the rim at a high level.
Brayden Board 6’5 F Crowley
Board is a big body forward, but he still looks to be figuring out how to use his size to his advantage. He is a good shooter from deep, especially for his size, and he can get his shot off over the reach of most defenders. He is capable of taking slower defenders off the dribble, but he still has room to improve finishing around the rim.
Coby Harris 5’9 G David Thibodaux
Harris is a hard-nosed guard, who excels at getting and finishing around the rim. He has as high a motor as you will find on both sides of the ball. He is an absolute hound on the defensive end, and was able to slow down some of the top offensive guards the camp had to offer.
Jayshun Miller 6’0 G Homer
Miller is a force to be reckoned with on the offensive end, and at times he was simply unguardable. He is very strong going to the rim, and can finish with the best of them. He has gotten into even better shape than when I saw him last, and if he continues on this trajectory is going to end up as a potential D1 player.
Salle Wilson 6’4 F Dunham
Wilson has a big body, and is capable of alternating between the guard and forward spots. He is a strong ball handler, and is capable of taking defenders off the dribble, and is a strong finisher in the paint. He has all of the tools necessary to be a good defender, and I expect that area of his game to get better as he gets more and more experience.
Byron Joshua 5’10 G Crescent City
Joshua is another top 5 player in the state for the class of 2020, and is a top 200 player in the country (currently ranked 174.) He is a super shifty guard, able to get into the paint at any point. He is a much better and stronger finisher around the rim than you would expect at his size. He is also capable of knocking down shots from the outside, and is probably the best three point shooter on this list.
