Freshman Showcase – Tony’s Standout Forwards
Prep Hoops Indiana – Freshman Showcase
Standout Forwards
Caleb Furst – 6’8” | Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian
Caleb Furst was one of the most advanced players in the gym yesterday. He can put the ball on the floor, score with his back to the basket, and step away from the basket and knock down jumpers with consistency. He has a great understanding of the game and uses his size to his advantage (https://twitter.com/PrepHoopsTony/status/909090430498820096). Caleb gets out in transition extremely well and finishes strong above the rim. He made some tough moves in the post for easy finishes. One of the best prospects in this young Class of 2021 in the State of Indiana.
D.J. Hughes – 6’7” | Lawrence North
D.J. Hughes grabbed rebound after rebound yesterday. He has broad shoulders and good length at 6’7” and he uses it well around the basket. He did the most damage on the offensive glass but also protected the rim well on defense as a shot blocker. He stepped away from the basket on occasion and showed that he is developing his game putting the ball on the floor (https://twitter.com/PrepHoopsTony/status/909130379373809666). Hughes has a good frame for an incoming freshman and is an intriguing player to keep an eye on.
Adam O’Dell – 6’6” | South Bend St. Joseph
Adam O’Dell looked poised beyond his years with some of his moves down low. His footwork was one of his greatest strengths. O’Dell has the ability to get his shots off against more athletic and longer defenders. He creates space well with his body and creates distance with a soft fade-away on his jumpers. He stepped out to fifteen feet a few times and looking comfortable knocking down shots. The lefty is creative with his finishing around the rim and his frame looks ready to have a great high school career.
Kyle Ross – 6’7” | Andrean
Kyle Ross has been on the radar for quite some time already. He has continued to grow both physically and as a player. Ross was dynamic on the offensive end. Putting the ball on the floor to finish strong at the basket (https://twitter.com/PrepHoopsTony/status/909119731004821504), stepping into the long ball (https://twitter.com/PrepHoopsTony/status/909118582147223552), and scoring down low with both hands under the rim. Ross uses his length well to bring in rebounds and really likes to get out in transition. He positions himself well on both backboards and creates space with his lower body. Definitely a player with a high ceiling to keep tabs on.
Jermaine Woods – 6’4” | Fort Wayne Snider
Jermaine Woods looked better and better as the day went on. He defends the basket extremely well on the low block with his length, athleticism, and timing on blocked shots. Woods always seemed to be in the right position on rotations for help-side defense and made his presence felt on both ends. He set good screens and was the beneficiary of some easy baskets down low because of it (https://twitter.com/PrepHoopsTony/status/909125175744040960). He is still developing with his back to the basket but could be a player that blossoms quickly in the SAC in Fort Wayne.
Landon Morris – 6’5” | Hamilton Southeastern
Landon Morris is a young prospect in the Class of 2021 who is starting to realize his abilities. He uses his athleticism and length well on both ends of the floor. Landon showed that he could contain ball handlers on the perimeter and also defend the rim inside. He was all over the offensive glass and finished strong around the basket. He has great hands at an early stage and his frame suggests that he’s not done growing. He was one of the players that stood out time and time again yesterday.
