Francisco’s Finest: Creme of the County (Top Wings)
Top Wing-Types
Chibuzo Agbo (Carlsbad, CA/ St. Augustine)
2020, 6-foot-6, 215 pounds
Joel’s Take: This burly wing-type plays at a great pace. He can lead the break and his decision-making is quite good. He can take defenders off the bounce due to his strength and he can either find the open teammate or stick the 3-point shot. Defensively, he had some impressive blocks at the rim.
Nakial Cross (La Jolla, CA/ The Bishop’s School)
2020, WF, 6-foot-6, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: Cross is a slender 3/4 who is a pogo-stick in the paint area as he finished above the rim numerous times. The lefty also showed improved ball skills and shooting touch in the paint. Due to his bounce, timing, and motor he has definite Division 1 potential.
Luke Haupt (Carlsbad, CA/ St. Augustine)
2020, WF, 6-foot-5, 185 pounds
Joel’s Take: “Basketball Player” is what comes immediately to mind when describing Haupt—and it comes as no surprise considering his father (Mike) is his high school coach. The skilled lefty is an impeccable passer who is a few plays ahead of his peers. He needs to continue to improve his quickness and smoothen out his jump shot a bit, but his ball skills and savvy are impressive.
Adrian Lee (Castle Park)
2018, WF, 6-foot-6, 180 pounds
Joel’s Take: Last year, Lee putt on a shooting clinic from deep and a year later, he continued his onslaught from beyond the stripe. He has an effortless shooting touch and his release is tight. His rangy frame and budding athleticism allows him to slash his way to the rim and he showed some savvy as well by moving well without the ball.
Craig McMillan (San Diego, CA/ Sweetwater)
2021, WF/PF, 6-foot-4, 190 pounds
Joel’s Take: The first word that comes to mind when describing McMillan is “relentless.” The 6-foot-4 combo-forward attacks well off the dribble and uses his frame to finish plays through contact. He isn’t overly bouncy, but he knows how to carve out space and he has a nose for the ball. He nailed a couple of 3s, but his shot is flat and he needs to get his legs into his shot.
Zach Reiter (Poway, CA/ Poway)
2018, WF, 6-foot-4, 190 pounds
Joel’s Take: Reiter is a beast at this level. The chiseled wing-type uses his thick frame and assertiveness to impact the game in multiple areas. Rebounding in traffic, pushing the ball in transition, and finishing plays in the paint are part of his repertoire. He is bit of a ‘tweener (position-less), but with an improved jump shot, he could play somewhere at the next level.
