DMV Elite 80 Final Notes, Player Standouts: Part 2
Curtis Holland III, 6’2.5″, CG, 2018. Southern Bulldogs HS. Harwood, MD.

Curtis & 6’4′ 2018 WG LJ Owens from The Severn School are perhaps the top 2 players in Anne Arundel County this coming season. Curtis has D1 offers from High Point, IUPUI, Mount Saint Mary’s, Wagner and Radford. He is a very powerful and athletic guard who can light light up the scoreboard and defend. Last season he averaged 17.2 & 6.2 rebounds per game & had a great summer playing for The District Basketball Club. Curtis plays with a very high motor & like the transition game where fishes above the rim. It appears Curtis wants to commit to a college in October or early November. Which ever school lands Curtis they will be getting a high character & go to player.
Cleveland Horton, 6’2″, CG, 2018. Poly Engineers HS. Baltimore, MD.
Grassroots Team: Cecil Kirk
Cleveland won a MD 3A State Title last season with the Poly HS & are a heavy threat to repeat in his senior campaign. He usually prefers play off the ball has an excellent triple threat. He finishes very well with both hands & has a nice pop to his jumper which he can hit from all angles off catch & shoot with 2 dribble pull-up. Cleveland possesses excellent shot mechanics with a quick release & he is a very crafty guard that looks to score, but knows when to pass.
Xavier Johnson, 6’0″, PG, 2019. Episcopal Maroon HS. Alexandria, VA.

From our 2019 Virginia Player Evaluations “He’s one of the best young shooters in the state, and he has deep range off the bounce meaning defenses have to pick him up early. He’s a smart kid that can read the defense, and he’s a crafty finisher in traffic as well. The biggest thing he needs to do is fill out and get more athletic as he grows into his body. Xavier just received his D1 from American University.

Rajeir Jones , 6’3″, WG, 2019. St. Frances Panthers HS. Baltimore, MD.
Grassroots Team: Team Thrill
Rajier plays both sides of the ball very well. He has very long winspan which he utilizes on the glass & as a hard working very effective on ball defender. Rajeir excels in scoring at he rim & in transition with a deadly pull up game. He is om the verge of becoming a knockdown shooter & improving his game off the dribble. Rajeir is currently rated @ #25 in our 2019 MD/DC rankings & with his upside could move up this year St. Frances is laded this season with potential to earn a national ranking.
Jimmy Kadpeh, 5’10” 2019. National Christian Academy HS. Fort Washington, MD.
Grassroots Team: 6th Man Warriors
Jimmy is a very scrappy PG who plays very tough the length of the court. He is vocal leader who is excellent floor general & a very good hard nosed on ball defender. If there is a loose ball Jimmy will get it. He is very quick, fast & can get baskets from all spots on the floor. He can get in the paint at will. Jimmy is a very good facilitator with the ability to impact the game without scoring with his very high IQ. He had an excellent summer playing for NCA in the Riverdale Baptist Summer League & for the 6th Man Warriors. He is a very under the radar DC / DMV PG who we expect to see his recruitment pick up this season. The bottom line is Jimmy is winner.
LJ Owens, 6’4″, CG, 2018. The Severn School Admirals HS. Severna Park, MD.
Grassroots Team: DC Blue Devils
LJ is a rising senior ranked #18 in our very strong 2017/18 rankings with a D1 offer from Kansas State. LJ recently recived offers from Quinnipiac, William & Mary, Towson, Delaware, UMBC, Radford, St Joes, and Lehigh. ”He has become an excellent shooter from beyond 3 point range to pair with an excellent mid range game. His 1 to 2 dribble pull up is lethal. LJ can use his crossover which freezes his defender & go right up with his high elevation & picture perfect jumper with a quick release. LJ is a very long 6’4″ & has great timing & reach to snare rebounds. He is a very hard worker & an excellent student. LJ knows how to win & he is leader. We will watch him play this season & provide live game reports & player articles for the Severn School who play in the MIAA B red division.

Da’Shawn Phillip, 6’5″, W, 2019. Dunbar HS Poets HS. Baltimore, MD.
Grassroots Team: Team BBC
Da’Shawn is very good athlete & one of the toughest players in Baltimore City. He is very strong & skilled with the ability to score from all 3 levels. Da’Shawn always grabs the 50/50 balls & uses his strength to score in traffic & grab rebounds. He is currently ranked at #48 in our updated 2018 player rankings an excellent college prospect. Last season Da’Shawn was awarded 2nd Team All Metro by The Baltimore Sun with all 20 players name legitimate D1 prospects. The Baltimore DMV is loaded again with outstanding college prospects & we will be covering Dunbar this season.
Jimmy Sorunke, 6’10”, C, 2021. Rockville Rams HS. Rockville, MD.
Jimmy possesses a huge upside & carries a very strong frame. He runs the court extremely well with a very high motor is very, very coordinated. Jimmy showed us flashes of superb timing on rebounds & blocks. Nate Spurlock, 6’7″, W, WT Woodson Cavaliers HS. Fairfax, VA.
Grassroots Team: District Basketball Club
Nate, Matthew Urbach & Cody Mains are the key returnees for WT Woodson from last seasons Virginia Sate 6A Championship team. He is a superb college prospect & a stat sheet stuffer with a very high IQ. Most experts label Nate as a pick & pop 4 who can drain 3s. He can really stroke it from long range off 1 to 2 dribble pull ups from the mid range. Nate can finish at the rim thru contact & he is very crafty in the paint. He is very athletic & runs the court very well. In transition Nate can throw down an electric dunk & utilizes his long wingspan to grab rebounds. In a game last season vs Stone Bridge Nate grabbed 16 rebounds & rejected 5 shots & averaged 12 points per game last season. he enjoyed an excellent summer with District basketball Club. Ante is an excellet student & holds a D1 offer from D1 Mt. St. Marys We will cover WT Woodson & Nate this season with live game reports & player articles.

Myles Stute, 6’7″ WF/WG, 2020. Gonzaga Eagles HS. Washington, DC.
Grassroots Team: Team Takeover
Myles displayed tremendous flashes last season playing as true freshmen for DC/DMV WCAC power Gonzaga College HS. He was a wide eyed 15 year old who began to come on late in the season. Myles is a very athletic & explosive Wing who can score from all 3 levels. He has become a knockdown shooter & made great strides in ball handling & shooting off the dribble. Myles can rebound very well & with a good motor & high IQ. He has great hops and can throw down some the best dunks in the DMV. We believe Myles will develop into a high major D1 recruit for a loaded 2017/18 Gonzaga team who we will cover in great detail.
