Dionte Ware Recruiting Report (2019)
Team NLP only ran out three 2019’s with their 17u team but damn were they a tough trio of young men: Jason Jitobah, Trey Owten, and Dionte Ware.
Jitobah’s (Hamilton Heights Christian) recruitment has taken off now that he is losing weight. Dionte Ware (Cleveland) is also skyrocketing into regional prominence heading into his junior season.
Lipscomb and Portland State dropped by last week to see Dionte train. Chattanooga and Robert Morris were also in last week.
“SEMO tomorrow,” said Cleveland Assistant Coach Reggie Tucker. “Butler on Thursday. Canisius, ETSU, NC State, Presbyterian College are planning on visiting this week as well.”
What makes Ware such an enticing prospect?
“He is a Guard that’s very versatile,” said Assistant Coach Tucker. “D can score many different ways; back-to-the-basket, off-the-dribble, mid-range and from deep. He plays multiple spots for us and can score on all three levels.”
At 6-foot-3 Ware projects as a Division One guard. He could probably play either on the ball or off, depending on the program.
Last season Cleveland High finished 25-4 record, ranked third in the state. Dionte Ware feels there is unfinished business with CHS.
“Letting a team that you beat three times during the season stop you from getting to the state still bothers him and has motivated him even more to finish the deal this season,” said Assistant Coach Tucker.
As he matures into an upperclassmen the burden of playing big in big moments will start to fall more on Ware’s shoulders. Is he ready for it?
“No doubt. There is no doubt that he has embraced the role of being the guy and trying to lead this team to state. Our coaching staff witnessed that this summer during team camps by his consistent play and toughness. D is that kid that wants the ball in his hands at the end of the game.”
Assistant Coach Reggie Tucker believes this will be a monster year for Dionte and college coaches are swarming with hopes he can help them down the line too.
“His father Russell Ware played at CHS and won a State Title his Junior,” said Assistant Coach Tucker. “Hopefully D can do the same.”
