Dayton’s Top Contenders
As we enter into the high school basketball season, it’s time to look at some of the top contenders in Dayton. Some of these teams are coming off success last year while others are looking to find success this year.
Trotwood-Madison– One of the most dominant teams one year ago, the Rams return several key pieces and are bound to have another big year and be the top team in D II this year. Amari Davis (2019) is the top guy back and the Rams have enough talent returning to be the best team in all of Southwest Ohio come March.
Sidney– Arguably one of the top teams in D I, the Yellow Jackets return one of the top players in the state in Andre Gordon (2019). With 4 other starters also joining Gordon, Sidney could give a few teams a run for their money come March.
Bethel– The Bees have an incredible backcourt in Caleb South (2018) and Ryan Rose (2018) and are capable of taking D III with ease out of Dayton. There aren’t many teams that will be able to defend this duo and with them the CCC is likely within their grasp as well.
Fort Loramie– D IV lost a lot of players from a year ago, but the Redskins brought back several starters and are by far the most experienced team not just in the SCAL, but also in Southwest Ohio. Evan Berning (2018) has a lot of potential and will guide his team forward.
Franklin– The Wildcats are making the move from D II to D I this year, but Franklin will still be one of the most dominant teams in the SWBL. Ryan Montgomery (2018) is one of the top athletes in the league. This team has potential to make some noise come tournament time and is capable of pulling off a nice run as well.
Wayne– Always a powerhouse in Dayton, Wayne will be no different this year. The backcourt of Darius Quisenberry (2018) and Deshon Parker (2018) is elite and by far one of the most impressive we’ve seen in a while. With the exception of Sidney, Wayne is likely the favorite in D I.
